And of course, reach out anytime if I can be of assistance to you on your journey to explore Naples living. Welcome back to another episode of Naples Revealed, the series where we uncover everything that makes Naples, Florida so wonderfully unique and occasionally a little weird in the best way possible. This time we're diving into the deep blue to explore the vibrant underwater world just off the shores. Spoiler alert, it's not just sand and sunscreen under there. Whether you're a seasoned snorkeler, a weekend beach bum, or someone who just enjoys fish more on a plate than in the ocean, Naples has a fascinating marine scene worth exploring. So grab your fins, your GoPro, and maybe a little motion sickness bracelet because we're heading underwater. We're gonna start with dolphins. The sassy show-offs of the sea. Let's be real, Naples dolphins have more personality than half the people in your HOA meeting. The bottlenose dolphin is basically the unofficial mascot of the Gulf, often spotted leaping out of the water with a flair of someone who just found a free happy hour. Fun fact: the dolphins are so smart, they sometimes surf the wake behind the boats just for fun. You know, like we all do when no one's watching. Number 2, manatees. Nature's slow-moving, seagrass-munching sweethearts. Imagine a giant aquatic baked potato with a heart of gold. That's our manatees. These gentle giants float all around Naples Bay like they've got nowhere to be, and that's the vibe we all secretly want. Pro tip: Visit warm waters like the Ten Thousand Islands during the colder months and you'll spot 'em, but keep your distance. They're lovers, not speedboats. Number 3: Sea turtles, the original beach bums. Sea turtles have been nesting on our beaches since before dinosaurs had Wi-Fi. You might spot loggerheads or green sea turtles doing their thing, especially during the mating season. Did you know that sea turtles can live to be 80+ years old, which is exactly how long it takes to find a decent parking spot in downtown Naples during high season. Number 4, coral reefs, underwater condos for fish with commitment issues. While Naples isn't known for massive reef systems like you'll find in the Keys, we do have patches of coral reef. That hosts some seriously colorful underwater tenants. Think of it as a luxury beachfront living just for sea creatures. Number 5, fish galore. Naples seafood platter, catch and release optional.
Fishing here is practically a competitive sport.
Whether you are a first-time caster or someone who owns more rods than shoes, Here's what you might hook.
Number 1, you might hook snook. Moody, dramatic, and always worth the chase.
Redfish, hearty and handsome, basically the Ryan Reynolds of the Gulf.
Tarpon, big and flashy and known as a silver king. Also, how I refer to my husband after a day at the beach. Spanish mackerel, fast, flashy, and occasionally photobomb your Instagram shots. And last but not least, grouper and snapper. Delicious, highly sought after, and basically the seafood version of Naples brunch reservation. Over 3 million people fish saltwater in Florida every year. That's more rods than there are beach chairs, and that's saying something. Number 6, invertebrates. Small but mighty and occasionally, occasionally stingy. That includes things like sea urchins, the spiny introverts just trying to keep things tidy. Starfish, of course, the divas of the ocean floor, posing like they're waiting for their close-up. And of course, jellyfish, beautiful, mesmerizing, and occasionally out for revenge. So keep your distance unless you're into surprise stings. Naples isn't just beautiful above the water, it's bursting with life below it too. From the graceful manatees to the scene-stealing dolphins, and then the not-so-cuddly colt jellyfish— and don't forget stingrays too— our coastal city is a treasure chest for underwater, underwater wonders. So whether you're diving in or just wading from the shore with a cocktail in hand, remember that the Gulf of Mexico is more than just pretty waves. It's an entire world waiting to be discovered. Stay tuned for the next episode of Your Naples Revealed, where we surface— literally— and explore what's next in paradise. Thanks and have a fantastic day!
