What's up, YouTube? It's a little bit of a different video and backdrop for me today. It's already dark and minus degrees at home at the farm where the heating.
System is being installed.
But I'm actually in Gibraltar in the sun in the evening. It's beautiful here. And I'm on a sailing training. But I want to talk today about a masterclass I'd like to hold in the spring before I go off on the great 2020 European farm tour. And I want your feedback if you're someone is interested in our education as to how to make the best training possible with the world's best farmer, Joel Salatin.
Now, I know most of you following us aren't so excited probably about sailing, but it's a passion of mine since.
I was a child reading Arthur Ransome's work and I made it a life mission around the world. So I'm here on training with Christian, who was an intern and then farm manager at the farm last year or this year that's just ending in order to take a training to be able to skip a yacht to see if it's something a I want to do and love to do and what I don't know. So what I need to know to be able to go off and buy my own boat. So that's why I'm here. It's been great. We've been out sailing around Spring Spain the first few days for the first week and we had a different crew, we had a great time going to different ports, learning all about practical aspects of sailing. And then we've just spent a few days in the classroom today. We just finished our tests. We have tests about reading charts and navigation. And it's very interesting for me because as someone that loves maps and works with maps for a living, to work with nautical charts is really interesting. So so much more dense data on a nautical chart and obviously so many more factors going on out at sea. I took to it like a duck in water, I guess you could say. And I really enjoy that process. So now we've got another five days out on the water. We're hopefully going sailing to Morocco. So really looking forward to that. And maybe I'll tell you all about my plans for sailing in another video. But anyway, I've been in communication with Joel Salatin and it seems like between the 10th and 14th May there's an opportunity to have Joel at the farm with us and do an epic training before I go off on the 2020 European farm tour, which you can find out about at regenerativeagriculture.info. the reason I wanted to ask people's.
Opinions is often when there are really.
Well known farmers on tour doing trainings.
It'S often repeating things that people have.
Already seen on YouTube, have read in.
Books or heard about it, presentations, whatever. I want to make this a training really unique. If you've got four days where you.
Could be at our farm, you with the season just starting up with Joel Salat in there too. Both of us very interested in diversified farming like mixed farming with animals and vegetables and tree crops, water systems. And we're both heavily into business and marketing and getting young people established on the land. I want to know what content that.
People would find useful. We would like to design a syllabus and I talked to Joel about this and he's really open to that idea.
I think it'll be fun for us and we really want to respond to the nuanced learning needs that people have.
I imagine something about entrepreneurship and business, etc.
But if you could be really granulated in answering that, that would really help us plan and it would help us.
Create a unique course content structure that I don't think could be replicated in another way without being in person. So I'm really excited about the possibility. I'd be super excited to have Joel at the farm. He's really excited to be something together and so we would like to make that happen and build it around people's feedback. So if you've got thoughts on what should be in that training, down to specific details and how to even spend time. Like I would love to have lots of time to answer people's specific questions. Time to go into subjects that you don't normally cover because things like how to run an egg mobile, you can find that on our YouTube channel, you can find it in our book, you can find it in Joel's books. Of course, we'll be happy to speak to any of those things. Things. But how could you use four days with Joel and myself in a unique way? And I'll be super excited to hear your comments and I will collate them and summarize them and pass them back to Joel and we'll design a schedule and hopefully get this training together pretty soon. But that will be an amazing start to the year for us to have Joel at the farm. Then I'll be off on the tour and Johanna's going to be managing the farm and a few people on the team keeping the productions up. So super excited. I'M excited to do some more live Q and a sessions on YouTube when I get home. I'll be doing them about pastured boilers, pastured layers, and take it from there once I get back and back into the rhythm of things. And also while I'm on holiday with the family, I can do some of that. So not so many farm videos for the coming months as I take my family away to Southeast Asia, but I'll be connecting with people via YouTube questions and answers. So look forward to hearing your comments and thoughts, and I'll tell you more about sailing another time. All right, see you in a video soon.
