S4 ● E26 Snow pigs and rescuing a Dane from the forest

Richard Perkins documents an unexpected snow flurry at the farm. Free-range pigs eating brewery grain and supermarket vegetables huddle together in a cuddle puddle, while Carl the Dane gets stuck on a forest track where wolves may be present and needs rescuing. The team shares a dinner of pork with black beans, tomato, and the first greenhouse salads.

We woke up this morning to this. It's the day that the first of the core team arrive from hot climates. Some we're going to go in and find the pigs. Big unexpected snow flurry last night and it's really caught us unaware, actually waiting for the team to arrive and we've been trying to prepare spaces. It's put work to a halt right now and just up feeding the pigs. Someone was asking what the pigs eat this time of year. We supplement the pigs food with spent grain from the local brewery and we sometimes pick up vegetables from the supermarket. But not so often in the summer, obviously. They have a lot more garden waste, etc. But they're happily digging around looking for roots up here and they're barely sniffing at the barley. They're actually eating some behind me on the hill right now. But it's their third feeding of the day and they haven't been interested in the previous two. Here's a young boar coming to say hello. They seem really happy out in the snow. They have tree cover, but they've just been sleeping out on the ground. Hey, mister. Yeah. They chose not to sleep in a sheltered hollow. They just slept in a cuddle puddle in the snow. This is where there's two little huddle spots where the pig slept. It's funny, they've got tall trees and cover down at the bottom, but they obviously didn't really care. Ah, good morning, cows. Good morning, late winter. So it's Friday evening. Tim's here. Tim's one of our chefs. Robin's here. Robin's a behind the scenes whiz and they've been cooking up a storm. Also, Carlos here now, but we just found out that Carl from Denmark is stuck on a back road in the forest. And the back road here is a little gravel track in the middle of the forest and there's wolves around, so we're skipping dinner to go find him.
Coming from gps. But it's a beautiful evening for a rescue mission. This is not really a road you want to be driving down in a car.
Hello. Hey, we got to get it on film.
First mistake documented.
What an iPhone.
Now I'm 90 degrees on the road.
Okay.
I don't know why. And I tried to dig and I tried to empty all the junk out of the trunk and everything, but.
And your GPS said come this way.
Pardon?
Your GPS told you.
Yeah, yeah. I don't know why. And I. I couldn't even have done so because there's roadblocks.
Yeah.
It's a cool vehicle, but I don't think it can get through this one. There's no way around there either, right? Doesn't look like it. No. Here we are with Carlsko. That was pretty good.
Original laundry.
Power. The carmobile.
Because it should be easier to drive in my own track.
When you pull it. Well, do you want to go forward this way, or you think it's.
No, I can't do that. We have to go back.
Yeah. So we want to pull your front end round and we. Okay, fill in the hole.
We're going backwards.
We decided to turn around backwards up to a place we can turn around. Okay.
Home for dinner. Mission accomplice. We're going home for dinner. I'm super hungry.
It's Graham. Thank you so much. What is it? Oh, it's porks, black beans, tomato, onions, garlic. It's rice from the hydroponic unit in the cellar. And first salads out of the greenhouse. Mizuna, My favorite. Super nice. He made it.
The exercise is finally over, and I'm glad to announce that you passed excellently.
