Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Our Father, Hear us from heaven, forgive our sins, we pray.
Hi, this is Rick Lee James here at First Church of the Nazarene again. That's a song we're going to be singing this Sunday morning here at church called "Our Father," written by Don Moen. It's really based on the Lord's Prayer, "Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name," which most of us are probably, hopefully very familiar with, especially if we are a believer. I want to just share some of the lyrics with you because this Sunday we're going to be emphasizing the pillar of a healthy church. Really, Pastor in the next few weeks is talking about the 4 pillars of a healthy church, and the first pillar being prayer. And so the lyrics to this song are a prayer. Don't be confused, it's not just a song, it's a prayer. It says, "Hear our prayer. We are your children and we've gathered here today. We've gathered here to pray." When we think about what the Lord has said his temple is, he's called it a house of prayer. Not a house of worship songs, not a house of preaching, but a house of prayer. And we're emphasizing that this week, that we've gathered here to pray. It's our primary focus. And prayer is as much listening, actually it's much more listening than it is talking. So we've gathered here to pray. Hear our cry. We need your mercy. We need your grace today. Hear us as we pray. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Our Father, hear us from heaven. Forgive our sins, we pray. And then the second verse says, hear our song as it rises to heaven. May your glory fill the earth as the waters cover the sea. See our hearts and remove anything that is standing in the way of coming to you today. Though we are few, we're surrounded by many who have crossed that river before, and this is the song we'll be singing forever. Holy is the Lord. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Our Father, hear us from heaven. Forgive our sins, we pray. It's what we're singing and what we're praying this Sunday here at church, at First Church of the Nazarene.
