A worship song called "Forgive Me" for World Communion Sunday. The lyrics ask God to reveal his redeeming love while the singer holds Christ's broken body and drinks the bitter cup, invoking imagery of crucifixion and pleading for forgiveness of all sin.
Chapters
Help me realize the depth of your redeeming love. If there's anything in me, any sin at all, forgive me. Forgive me. Through the constant struggle, it never seems to cease. As in life, so is the cross. It too was bittersweet. As I receive this sacrament, a holy mystery, I am amazed you're sharing it with me.
You were crushed, you were bruised, You were scorned and you were used. Here am I with nothing left but praise for you, praise for you.
As I hold your broken body and drink your bitter cup, help me realize the depth of your redeeming love. If there's anything in me, anything at all, forgive me, forgive me. Forgive me. Forgive me.
Well, this week is World Communion Sunday, and here at First Church of the Nazarene, we are going to be celebrating. Don't you wish every Sunday could be World Communion Sunday? Such a beautiful day to be able to come together together and share of the Lord's table. There are many things we're gonna be discussing this week at church, uh, but the most important thing, that the Sacrament of Communion is a sacrament where we come to the table together, experiencing together the open arms of Jesus, the invitation to all to come and be transformed. Think of it in this way, that we come before the table, that We receive once again the body and the blood of Christ, and in doing so, we receive Jesus into us in a very tangible, very physical way. We in our denomination, in our church, we welcome all to the table because we believe in the transforming power and the transforming grace of Jesus Christ to come and change a life, to come and change a heart. So this Sunday here at First Church of the Nazarene, we want you to know that you are welcome to come and receive Jesus. To come and receive Christ, to come and partake of his dinner table, to come and receive his meal, the gift of salvation that is brought through it, and the unity that unites all of us as one in Christ together as we receive communion. That song that I just sang, we're gonna be singing Sunday morning as we receive together. It was written by Greg Nelson and Paul Marino. Fantastic song, fantastic lyrics. And really, that is our prayer. If there be any sin in me, anything at all, we ask that the Lord would forgive us as we come together, as we receive his body and his blood.
