In a live radio segment on WEEC 100.7FM, singer‑songwriter Rick Lee James introduces the worship song “Sacred Heart of Jesus,” explaining that it originated from an old Catholic prayer often found on devotional candles. He notes that the song appears on his 2010 album Changes and was intended as a duet, which he recorded with vocalist Mandy Holcomb. Rick reflects on the song’s popularity on YouTube, attributing its success largely to Mandy’s contribution, and mentions that they have not performed it together since the original recording. After brief banter with the station engineer (Speaker B) about the live mix, Rick promotes an upcoming New Year’s concert where the song will be performed with his full band. Mandy then delivers a heartfelt rendition of the song’s lyrics, emphasizing themes of divine love, mercy, repentance, and invitation to rest. The segment concludes with informal applause and a light‑hearted comment from Speaker B.

Well, this is a song that Mandy recorded with me on my album. Changes is the name of it, and it's called Sacred Heart of Jesus. And I wrote it actually from an old Catholic prayer. There's actually— you can find these on like candles if you go into grocery stores and things. They have usually a picture of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and there's a prayer that goes along with it. And I just kind of was praying it, you know, kind of looking at the words and just thinking how beautiful they were. And so this song came from that. And I, when I was recording Changes, I was hoping to turn it into a duet, and Mandy was nice enough to come over and lend her voice to it. And I think still to this day it has the highest hits of any song of mine on YouTube. I think there's several thousand, and it's not because of me. I'm sure it's because of Mandy's contribution to it. So yeah, so it's, it's just an early worshipful song that I don't know, I really enjoy singing it and playing it. Don't get to do it very often. Matter of fact, we have not sung it together since we recorded it, which was the end of 2010. So this will be kind of a first time since then today.
So you're gonna have the rookie guy over here on the sound area mixing the first time of you guys. Okay.
Yeah, it's gonna all work out.
I tell you what, we've got some gas in this engine. But turn the key, buddy.
We are gonna sing this with my band actually at the night at the New Year's performance with more than just me on piano. So if you like it today, come hear it live.
Alright, let's go ahead and I'm gonna turn my mic off and let you go for it, okay?
Okay, great. Thank you. Alright.
Oh, Sacred Heart of Jesus, filled with boundless love, broken by our cold ingratitude, pierced by our transgressions, yet loving us still. The only hope we have is found in you. We're longing for you. We're desperate for your grace. We hear your invitation ringing through this place as you say, come to me, all who are weary. Bring in your burdens and leave them here. Bring all your sin and sorrow and all of your tomorrows, and I will give you rest. O Sacred Heart of Jesus, merciful and true, teach us how to do the Father's plan. Fill us with compassion. Help us be like you, taking on the needs of hurting men. We're longing for you. We're desperate for your grace. We hear your invitation ringing through this place as you say, come to me, all who are weary. Bring in your burdens and leave them here. Bring all your sin and sorrows and all of your tomorrows, and I will give you rest. Come to me. He's calling out to you. Come to me. Come and be made new. Come to me, broken down by sin. Come to me and never be the same again. Come to me, all who are weary. All who are weary. Bring in your burdens. And leave them here. Leave them here. Bring all your sin and sorrow and all of your tomorrows, and I will give you rest. And I will give you rest. And I will give you rest.
Hey, that sounded pretty good. I wish I had more people to clap with me. It's worthy of multiple applause.
Finger snaps.
Yeah, yeah, that was good. That sounded really, really good. Thank you, Rick and Mandy.
