A songwriter traces "Your Fire" back to Pentecost and Moses at the burning bush, connecting the Israelites' wilderness wait to believers seeking the Holy Spirit's power today. The song emerged from that theological link between two fire encounters separated by centuries.

This song is based on this little note that I had in my phone from a sermon I heard years ago, and it was that at Pentecost we all became burning bushes. And it's this idea of like tying Moses and this burning bush story to the Pentecost Day story. And this idea that, you know, the Israelites have gone out to the wilderness, and in Exodus 3 it says Moses is beyond the wilderness. He's out beyond the wilderness, and that's when the fire comes. And the fire is so powerful, the Holy Spirit is so powerful, He's even the dirt holy. And so then we, you know, fast forward to Pentecost, the day of Pentecost. They've been with Jesus. Jesus is— they've left everything they know to go out with this crazy— to follow this crazy carpenter into this wilderness of unknown things. He dies, He resurrects, He goes into heaven, and He's like, "Now you're gonna do it, and the Spirit's gonna come on you in such power you're not gonna believe it." So they're out beyond where they've ever been before, and they have no idea. They're just waiting for this thing that God has promised.
And then the fire comes upon them.
And so we started talking about how does that look in our lives as we are maybe in a place of wilderness, maybe we're beyond that, and we are just waiting because God led us out here and now we just want the fire to come that he's promised. And so then, yeah, that's how this kind of started. And we had a drummer in our group, so then we formed this awesome band, and here we are.
So thank you. Confusion reigns, let us go. Wandering thoughts, anxious hearts, nowhere to go. Waiting for you, waiting for you too. Here I am. Holy Ghost, carry me through. Even when chaos surrounds us, out beyond the cloud, there will be a way for your Holy Light. Even in suffering and sorrow, trust in thee, I believe. Your favor is right and true. Your presence, your spirit changes us and makes us new in our minds. Oh, in power, your favor is right and true. Here we wait. You are present here. Here we wait. You are present here. Here we wait. Lord, be present here. Yeah! Good man!
