First Practice for Mindfulness Be Present the first and foremost mindful parenting practice is to be present. Being fully engaged in the moment with your child means giving them your undivided attention. Put away your phone, turn off your tv and really listen to what your child is saying. This helps build a strong emotional connection and shows your child that they are very valued. I know this is not easy to do all the time, but at least try this for 30 minutes every day. I call it the no Screen Time Window. I promise you will love it. And 30 minutes of no screen connection with your child will bring so much calmness into your parenting. Practice 2. Deep breathing teaching both yourself and your child to practice deep breathing can be incredibly beneficial. When you feel stressed or overwhelmed, take a few deep breaths to calm your mind. You can also guide your child through deep breathing exercises to help them manage their emotions. You can do this two to three times a day. You just leave everything for a minute, take a few deep breaths and then start working again. These small pauses will help you reset the whole day and you will feel so relaxed. Practice three Respond instead of Reacting Mindful parenting encourages you to respond to your child's behavior. Rather than reacting impulsively, take a moment to pause and think before you speak or act. This helps you address situations calmly and constructively. When you are reacting, you are focusing on what your child is doing, but when you respond, your focus is on how your child will feel after you speak. This small shift in focus will allow you to respond and instead of reacting. So don't just focus on their behavior, focus on their feelings and you'll automatically respond instead of reacting. Practice 4 Show empathy empathy is a crucial part of mindful parenting. Try to understand and validate your child's feelings. Even if you don't agree with their behavior, the behavior can be wrong but all emotions are always correct. This will help your child feel heard and understood which can reduce conflicts and strengthen your parent child bond. Practice 5 Create a calm Environment Creating a calm and peaceful home environment can significantly impact your child's well being. Use soft lighting, play soothing music and keep your house tidy. A calm environment helps children feel secure and promotes positive behavior. This can also improve focus in studies. You can also watch my detailed video on how to help children with homework. Now. I've already shared five practices with you. There are five more to go and I really hope that you're making notes so Practice six is Mindful Listening. Practice mindful listening by giving your full attention to your child when they are speaking. Avoid interrupting them and show interest in what they are saying. This practice not only improves communication but also builds trust and respect. If we interrupt a lot when our children are speaking, they will stop coming to us because they want to avoid being lectured and schooled all the time. Practice 7 this one is my absolute favorite. Setting Intentions for the Day Start your day by setting positive intentions. You can do this alone or you can do this with your child. Discuss what both of you hope to achieve that day and how you plan to handle challenges. Setting intentions helps you to stay focused and mindful throughout the day. You can have intentions like Today I'm going to be a calm mother. Today I will have 3 liters of water or Today I will eat less than my appetite. Today I will spend one hour nature time with my child and anything else that helps you to feel better. Make sure you try this now. Practice 8 encourage gratitude incorporate gratitude into your daily routine. Encourage your child to express what they are thankful for each day. Practicing gratitude shifts focus from negative to positive experiences. You will soon start to feel abundant and blessed. This is something that I make mothers in my community do every day. If you wish to join my community, you can register for my free masterclass. I've shared the link in the Description below. Practice 9 Be kind to Yourself Mindful parenting also means taking care of yourself. Be kind to yourself and acknowledge that you're doing your best. Self compassion reduces stress and sets a positive example for your child on how to treat themselves. If you are not kind to yourself, chances are you will struggle to be kind with your child. And last but not the least, practice 10 reflect on the day. At the end of each day, take a moment to reflect. Think about what went well and what can be improved. If you want, you can write three things that you loved about your day and three things that you wish you can do differently. Discuss these reflections with your child if they are age appropriate. This practice helps you learn and grow together with your child. Using these 10 mindful parenting practices and making them a part of your daily routine can lead to a more peaceful, happy and connected family life. Remember, it's not about being perfect, but about being present and intentional in your parenting journey. I hope you found these tips helpful.
