This is a YouTube video titled "Our Children Have Their Own Problems! #parenting #youtubeshorts #shorts #parentingtips" containing a parenting advice talk recorded on August 24, 2022. The speaker discusses how parents should support their children in solving their own problems by acting as facilitators and asking open-ended questions rather than providing direct solutions.
Understand that just like us, our children have their own problems. These are all child owned problems. Problems like your child being rejected by friends at school, not being able to do their homework and when your child is having such a problem, do not jump in and solve those problems for them. Trust their ability to solve their own problems. What you need to do as a parent is we need to act as a facilitator and a helping agent and help our children work through the problem solving process. We can do this by actively listening to them and asking a lot of open ended questions. So you can tell your child that I understand how bad you feel but why do you think your friend is not talking to you? Did you do something to annoy your friend? Can you do something differently to make your friend speak with you? By asking these questions you are helping your child arrive at a solution. But at no point should you give the solution to your child and assume that your solution is the best solution for your child.
