And today I'm gonna be covering, which is probably my favorite video on YouTube. And every time I listen to it, it kind of just puts my life into perspective and I wanted to share it with you. It's an audio from a guy named Alan Watts, who's a philosopher who died 20 or 30 years ago. And in this audio he actually talks about how people don't follow their passions because they believe that there's no money to be found and to be made by following their passions. Yet following our passion is only the real way to truly be happy. So I'll go ahead and let you listen here and then I'll tell you my thoughts at the end. So, without further ado, I bring you the audio from Alan Watts.
What do you desire? What makes you itch? What sort of a situation would you like? Let's suppose I do this often in vocational guidance of students. They come to me and say, well, we're getting out of college and we haven't the faintest idea what we want to do. So I always ask the question, what would you like to do if money were no object? How would you really enjoy spending your life? Well, it's so amazing as a result of our kind of educational system, crowds of students say, well, we'd like to be painters, we'd like to be poets, we'd like to be writers, but as everybody knows, you can't earn any money that way. Or another person says, well, I'd like to live an out of doors life and ride horses. I said, you want to teach in a riding school? Let's go through with it. What do you want to do? When we finally got down to something which the individual says he really wants to do, I will say to him, you do that and forget the money. Because if you say that getting the money is the most important thing, you will spend your life completely wasting your time. You'll be doing things you don't like doing in order to go on living. That is to go on doing things you don't like doing, which is stupid. Better to have a short life that is full of what you like doing than a long life spent in a miserable way. And after all, if you do really like what you're doing, it doesn't matter what it is, you can eventually turn it. You could eventually become a master of it. It's the only way to become a master of something, to be really with it. And then you'll be able to get a good fee for whatever it is. So don't, don't worry too much. That's everybody's. Somebody's interested in everything and anything you can be interested in, you'll find others. But it's absolutely stupid to spend your time doing things you don't like in order to go on spending things you don't like and doing things you don't like. And to teach your children to follow in the same track. See, what we're doing is we're bringing up children and educating them to live the same sort of lives we're living in order that they may justify themselves and find satisfaction in life by bringing up their children to bring up their children to do the same thing. So it's all wretch and no vomit. It never gets there. And so therefore, it's so important to consider this question, what do I desire?
So that is it.
And I hope that you listen to this a hundred times, 150 times, anytime that you want to, every single day, if possible. This is the things that I would take away from this. He asked questions like, what would you do if money were no object? What would you be doing with your time? How would you be spending your life if money was not some object that was holding you back from your passions? And he says, forget the money, because if you say that getting money is the most important thing, then you will spend your entire life completely wasting your time. And you'll be doing things that you don't like doing, which is doing things to make money in order to go on living. So that is to go on doing things that you don't like doing, which is stupid. And he says, anything that you're interested in, you will find others who are interested in.

the last thing that he says and I'm going to leave you with is he says, we're bringing up our children and educating them to live the same sort of lives that we're living. So if your kids are seeing you not live your passion and go to a job that you hate, or not doing something that fulfills you, they're learning from you and they're going to do the exact same thing. So ask yourself, is that something that you want your kids to see and your kids to do later on with their lives? So let me ask you this. What is it that you really desire? What would you be doing right now if money were no object? Would you read more? Would you play more music? Would you paint more? Would you travel the world? Would you learn more languages? Would you help other people in the community? Would you save animals or ride horses or do photography? What is it? Let me ask you the question. How much is the world suffering and those around you suffering from you not following your passion and living your your true authentic self as well as everybody else in the world not living their true passion and their authentic self? So if money was no object, then what would you be doing right now? If money is what you're going after, you'll never be satisfied. You must follow your passion and then the money will come. So with that, I want to leave you with as I leave you every single day, every single episode that we have. Make it your mission today to make somebody else's day better. And I hope that you have an amazing day.
