How to Make a Difference in the World

One morning, a young boy was walking along the beach, and he came to a part of the beach where thousands of starfish had been washed up during a terrible storm the night before. Now, he knew that if the starfish arrived in the water too long, all of them would die. So whenever he went to a starfish and passed one, he'd pick it up and throw it back into the ocean. And people watched him with amusement. He'd been doing this for some time. And then a man approached the little boy. He said, little boy, why are you doing this? Look at this beach. You can't even begin to save all of these starfish. And to be honest, you probably won't even make much of a difference. And the little boy seemed crushed and suddenly deflated. But after a few minutes, he bent down, picked up a starfish, and threw it as far as he could into the ocean. Then he looked back up at the man and replied, well, I made a difference to that one. And the old man looked at the boy and thought about what he had said and done, and he was inspired. He decided to join the little boy and started throwing starfish back into the ocean. Within minutes, many other people joined in, and almost all of the starfish were saved. So just remember, when you're listening to a story like this, you're never too small to make a difference in someone's life. Don't worry if the difference that you make is a big difference or a small difference. The only thing that you should be focused on is trying to make a difference in the world.
