How To Stop Limiting Yourself

Roger Bannister ran a sub-four-minute mile, the Wright brothers flew, Edison made light. All were supposedly impossible until someone ignored that story. What limits are you believing that aren't real?

When will you stop holding yourself back? When will we as humans stop holding ourselves back? See, every limitation in this world is optional. We decide how we are limiting ourselves, whether we realize it or not. You know, they used to think that it was impossible for a human to run a mile in under four minutes. Actually, scientists said that a human heart would explode due to over exertion. And then in 1954, a man named Roger Bannister ran a mile in under four minutes and proved everybody. Do you want to know the craziest part about that story is over the next four years, 20 more people ran a mile in under four minutes. So let me ask you, do you think that the humans magically evolved over the next four years and their bodies were actually able to run a four minute mile? No, of course not. So what does that show us? It shows us that people were limiting themselves based on what they thought or what other people had said to them. You know, for thousands of years, people looked up into the skies and were jealous of the birds, thinking that human flight was impossible. Until the Wright brothers proved them. And people used to stay up at night under candlelight thinking that candlelight was the only way to light up the night sky. Until Thomas Edison decided to prove them wrong as well. See, every groundbreaking human invention came because somebody decided to think outside of the realm of human possibility. From the wheel to the spaceship to the smartphone, every single thing that we've created has been because somebody decided to think outside. Think about it. If we were to take someone from 3,000 years ago and plant them in this city right now, they would think that they are on some alien planet because of all that we have created. From cars to planes to skyscrapers as well. All of those are because somebody decided to think differently about their world. Think about all of the great things we could create and worldwide issues we could solve if people just decided to think outside of their limitations. So now I ask you this question. How are you limiting yourself? How are you holding yourself back? Because there's greatness inside of you. You are great. We are all great. We just have to give ourselves the permission to release that greatness out into the world. Don't ever say something is impossible. Replace that with the phrase I'm possible.
