Your brain is not built to keep you happy, it's built to keep you alive. Your brain evolved to scan for threats, not blessings. That's why you overthink. That's why a bad comment hits you harder than 10 compliments. That's why you can find yourself thinking positive one moment and then bam, negativity comes back again. Negativity, though, is natural. In fact, in psychology, it's called the negativity bias. And it helped our ancestors avoid being eaten. Or see, back then, danger was everywhere. So the human brain evolved to focus on the negative, to assume the worst, and to expect pain. Your brain thinks it's protecting you, but it's actually just trapping you. But today, the same wiring is why you're anxious or reactive or always waiting for the worst thing to happen. So what do we do? Well, if you want joy or growth or success, you have to override your own biology. You have to train your mind for it. You have to be proactive in searching for what is good in your life. Otherwise you'll default to the negative. So when you hear about stuff like mindfulness and gratitude and being present, those aren't just all fluff, they're literally rebellion against hundreds of thousands of years of fear based programming.
