Success is This Simple

Success works like a hand-pumped well: early effort brings nothing, so most people quit. Those who keep going hit a trickle phase where results feel too small. Push past that and you get a flood. The Compound Effect shows how consistent daily work compounds into self-sustaining success.

In the book the Compound Effect, Darren Hardy talks about success being like a hand pumped well. When you first start pumping the well, you have to realize that that water is coming from hundreds of feet out of the ground and you're not going to get any water for a long period of time. That is how success is. You're going to put in a lot of work to sleepless nights, day in, day out, and you're not going to see any success for a while. That is where most people give up. You're also going to get to a point where you're pumping for a while and water starts trickling out and little spurts of water start coming out. That's another place where most people give up in their journey of success. They give up because they say, I've been putting in all of this work for so long and this is all that I get this little tiny bit and they give up. But then they don't realize. Where you really see success is when you're pumping for long enough. You put the hard work and you've put in the days and the hours and the weeks and the years, the little tiny habits, and then the water starts flowing and it starts flowing so much that you don't even have to pump as hard anymore. The water will continue to flow at max rate without as much effort being put in. That's the point of success that most people never get to and they never see. And that's what you have to focus on the next time you're working towards something. Don't give up before you see results. And when you start to see results and they're smaller than you were expecting, don't give up there either. Realize that eventually, just like pumping the well, success will start flowing to you in massive quantities. But you just have to keep pumping and keep putting the effort in, day in, day out. And eventually you'll get to the point where you can take your foot off the gas a little bit and it's not going to slow down the amount of success that comes to you.
