Rob Dial shares the Five Minute Rule from his first mentor: when something goes wrong, set a timer for five minutes to fully feel your emotions. When it ends, say "Can't change it" and move on. You won't remember it in five years anyway.

My first mentor taught me this, and it absolutely changed my life. It's called the five Minute rule. When something goes wrong in your life, terrible or not the way that you want it to be, you set your timer for five minutes and you give yourself full permission to freak out, to cry, to scream, to bash your pillow against the bed. But when that timer goes up, when those five minutes are over, you say three words. Can't change it. And what you do is you learn to accept it. You move on. And you don't carry that negativity with you throughout the rest of your day. Because, honestly, you probably won't remember this event in the future. And if you won't remember it in five years, don't spend more than five minutes dwelling on it.
