Think in Black and White

A speaker argues that endless analysis keeps you stuck, and the solution is forcing every decision into yes or no. Your gut knows the answer; your brain just generates safety questions that paralyze you. Shift the habit by repeatedly asking: is it a yes or a no?

Welcome, everybody, to today's episode. Today I'm going to be talking about thinking in black and white, thinking in binary, because everything in life is either black or white. I'm not talking about racial issues, any of those things. I'm talking about your decisions. It's all binary. It's either a one or it's a zero. Your life is either yes or it's a no. It's a go or a stop. That's it. You either do something or you don't do something. That's it. There's no other options to it. And some of you are out there and you might be saying, well, that's not quite true. There are some times you need to sit, you need to think about it. You need to consider all the options. You need to think about how everyone else will react to it and all of these things that you're saying. And what you have to realize is that if you sit around and think about it and think about all the options and. Or possibly get worried about it, or constantly question each thing that you do, you still are not doing it. So if you either do something or you don't do something, when you sit around and think about it or worry about it or question it, you're actually still not doing it. You either do or you don't. And you don't think about all the things that happen, and you just go for it sometimes. And you have to learn that everything is either black or white. It's either a yes or a no, or it's a stop or it's a go. Whatever it is, that's all that you have to realize. It's either black or white. It's either yes or no. That's it. Stop clogging your mind with all of the crap, worrying about all of your fears, what people are gonna think of you, because all that stuff really doesn't matter. Now, I do understand. This is not something that's done overnight. You can't just go, okay, I'm gonna change my life. To either everything's a yes or everything's a no, because we're naturally. It's an everyday practice. If you take 20, 30, 40 years of your life and you constantly question everything, well, then the problem with that is you're probably never gonna really get as far as you want to. But it's also, if you're trying to change that habit, it's gonna take a lot of time to change that habit. And you have to realize that within one second, your brain is asking itself subconsciously five different times. Is this safe? Is this safe? Is this safe? So you can't just constantly, I'm sorry, you can't just right away switch your brain over to automatically thinking it's either yes or no. So I understand you can't just stop this way of thinking right away. But what you can do is bring awareness to it, to realize that it exists, and to think deeply about what your brain is actually doing and the process that you're going through. When you're worrying too much, when you're thinking about something too much, when you sit back and weigh all of the options, which really means don't do anything. Because your brain is always trying to keep you safe, to talk you out of things. Even though what we know is that your gut is like your emotional compass. It tells you the right way to go. And your brain always tries to talk you out of stuff. So next time you're stressing out about doing something or not doing something, if you think too much about it, you are essentially still not doing it. You are letting your fears creep in. So next time you have that feeling of being worried or having your fears creep in, ask yourself, is it a no or is it a yes? And if your brain starts wandering again, ask yourself, is it a no or is it a yes? And go with the gut feeling of what you think you should do, because your gut always knows what you should do. Your brain is what tries to keep you safe and tries to talk you out of everything. If your brain wants to ask you another question, if you say, is it a yes or a no? And your brain's like, well, what about this option? Bring it back, Is it a yes or a no? And go with your gut feeling, because your gut always knows what to do. And realize everything is black or white, yes or no. So you either do it or you don't do it. And by thinking about it too much is essentially not doing it. So next time you're in a situation, a bind, where you have to figure out if you're going to do something or not, ask yourself, is it a yes or a no? If it's not a oh, yes, hell yes, I'm going to go for it, then it's a no, Move on to the next thing and save yourself some time.
