This is a YouTube news report titled "One Of Worlds Largest Grocery Chains Hit By Cyber Attack" (posted 2024-11-20). The excerpt is a multi-speaker news segment/live report from WCBB News reporter Mary Salata (SPEAKER A) with comments from store staff (SPEAKER B), another analyst (SPEAKER C), and a quoted cybersecurity expert Robert Siciliano. It describes a cybersecurity breach at Ahold Delhaize affecting Stop & Shop and Hannaford—leading to supply-chain and inventory shortages, outages of online ordering/pharmacy services, disrupted deliveries (impacting elderly and disabled customers), and the company’s engagement of external cybersecurity experts and law enforcement.

Good news, there is no indication at this point that customers' personal information was compromised, but they are feeling this breach and it is really inconvenient for some. Just 2 weeks before Thanksgiving, many area Stop 'n' Shops are struggling to keep certain foods in stock. Fruits and vegetables, fresh organics, and poultry in particular.
When we asked one of the staff coming out of the meat market area, um, what's happening, he said there was a warehouse issue, delivery. The supply chain issues are due to a cybersecurity breach.
That according to Dutch company Ahold Delhaize, the parent company of Stop Shop and Hannaford and one of the world's largest food retail groups. The company won't discuss the extent of the breach but has confirmed that it's brought in help from external cybersecurity experts and that law enforcement is involved. Stop Shop telling us today, customers may continue to see more limited inventory than usual for certain products as the issue and our mitigation efforts have impacted the shipment of select products to our stores.
Something like this could take a couple of days. It could potentially take a couple of weeks based on how serious and widespread this incident is.
Cybersecurity expert Robert Siciliano says as long as customer information wasn't compromised, the company doesn't have to disclose the details of the breach. As of today, the Stop Shop app and online ordering is up and running, but Hannaford is still offline. That includes grocery and pharmacy orders via the app. Now that's a major issue for Hannaford customers who placed to-go orders before Hannaford went offline last week. Many of them are elderly and disabled customers who really rely on those services, but now they are in a holding pattern waiting for their money that they paid to be freed up. We are live in Dedham tonight. I'm Mary Salata, WCBB News.
