Self Defense, attacked from behind, www.PersonalSecurity.TV

Robert Siciliano demonstrates escape techniques for a rear bear-hug attack. He shows how to shift your body, strike the groin repeatedly, stomp the attacker's foot, and use other disabling moves to break free and run.

Turn around. They grab you from behind, they put you in a bear hug. In this scenario, what most people are going to try to do is break free, which you can't. You're not going to be able to because you don't have the strength to break free from a bear hug like this. I can do a lot more damage to you like that than you can by pulling me apart. Whereas your best option is to try to debilitate your attacker, to try to hit them, to strike them, to make it difficult for them to continue. From here, if you shift your body to the right and you start slapping to the groin, hard, hard, hard slaps, whether you're open-handed or closed-fisted, or even if you grab and you twist and you pull, believe me, you're going to do some damage. Additionally, let's just say I got you from behind and you can't strike because I've got you. The top of everyone's foot has about 27 pencil-thin bones. Ever drop a soup spoon or a yard tool or something on your foot? How debilitating is that? So stomping the top of somebody's foot, whether it's heels or barefoot or flats or sneakers or boots, stomping somebody's foot can debilitate half their support system, giving you an opportunity to escape.
