I am Robert Siciliano. Some people call me the Lifesaver. I know how the criminal mind works. For over 25 years, I've been teaching people that security is a journey, not a destination, and not a place you ever arrive to. From self-defense to identity theft, I show people how to take control of their lives step by step. I write books about it. I teach classes on it so predators don't choose you as their next victim. My sidekick, Christie, is a mother of two. She's smart, sexy, and tough as nails. And you've just enrolled in Extreme Extreme School, made for students like you. Here to educate and inform so you don't become a crime statistic. Class in session.
You've been robbed, cheated, or scammed.
Attacked. Threatened with violence or otherwise abused.
You probably think you'll never feel the same again.
But you will. All you have to do is go back to school.
What kind of school?
Extreme School.
That's right. We'll teach you how to send the bad guys packing.
Protect yourself and your family before they even target you.
And keep the baddies out of your life.
No going to school.
Extreme School. Tonight on Extreme School, we're gonna meet two carjacking victims. Our guest expert will teach us how to avoid a carjacking ourselves. But first, Robert is going to find out if these girls are ready to go to school. Extreme School.
We're here with Jackie, who was victim of vehicular stalking, the unintended consequences culminated in an accident that very well could have taken her life. So now, what time of day did this all take place? Where were you? What time of night was it?
I was on the highway. It was around 2:30 at night. I was driving home by myself on the highway. I didn't realize that there was somebody next to me in a truck. I started to notice that, you know, I'm driving and the guy's driving the same speed as me. I start realizing, am I being followed? Like, you know, what the heck's going on?
So he was mimicking your driving speed, and you at this point felt that this guy was paying unwanted attention to you.
Exactly. I pulled over on the right side of the road, dead stop, and the guy pulled over in front of me, dead stop, like completely dead stop. So I was like, oh my God, okay.
He was actually stalking you at this point.
Yeah.
And there aren't a lot of cars on the road at 2:30 in the morning.
It freaked me out so bad that the guy stopped dead stop in front of me that I called 911.
Absolutely, call 911. As soon as you realize that there's a situation occurring, that you're essentially being stalked, somebody's paying unwanted attention to you, that you fear for your security, calling 911 is the best thing to do.
I called 911 and I was like, I'm being followed right now. They were like, what exit are you at?
Where are you?
And I told them where I was. I pull out on the road and right when I'm pulling out, the guy pulls out too. And I'm like, oh my God. I start speeding up and the guy pulls up right behind me. So I pull over to the right lane, he pulls over the right lane. I pull to the left lane, he pulls to the left lane. I slow way, way down, he slows way, way down. So then I started getting pissed off because the guy was following me. So I freaking speed it up like 85, 90 miles an hour. I pull over, try to go into the right lane and pass the car in front of me because the guy was up behind me. And as I was pulling over in front of the car, my car spinned around. I did a 360, and I was on the phone the whole time with 911. My car rolls down in a ditch 2 times.
How have you dealt with it since the incident?
I'm still working down in Boston when I can.
How would you be different in a situation if it were ever to happen again or reoccur?
Honestly, I don't really know. I've thought about it.
If it was possible to learn how to be more defensive in the situation?
Yeah, I would love to.
Well, that's the answer we're looking for. So you want to go to Extreme School?
Yes.
Say, "I'm going to Extreme School." I'm going to Extreme School. This is the Extreme School semantic computer crime alert. Extreme alert! If you use a portable card now navigation system, you could be hacked when you download routes to your PC. Hackers have devised a virus which lives in your PC and which they can use to locate your car or lead you astray by sending you false directions. Check for updates and download your virus definitions frequently to prevent an attack on your GPS and your computer. On the next episode of Extreme School, we give you some travel security tips that you should know, and we visit a SWAT training school to get a lesson on how this team handles extreme situations. Anthony Ricci is president of ADSI, Advanced Driving and Security Incorporated. He trains personal security agents, police, and military forces in the arts of defensive and evasive driving so they can protect the occupants of their vehicle and survive on the road in some of the most dangerous places on Earth.
Ready? 3, 2, 1.
Be the car.
Nice.
Oh, jeez.
No, bro. Here they come again.
He's got to get through. Ah, look at that. More the speed.
Wow.
Hackers are disguising malware as Mozilla Firefox extensions. Once infected, PCs are vulnerable to being used for man-in-the-middle attacks, in which hackers remotely go after protected data systems through public access Wi-Fi networks. Until this threat has been defeated, if your PC uses Firefox extensions, be careful logging on to public access Wi-Fi. For added security, turn off your PC's Bluetooth application when in the range of public Wi-Fi access points. Anthony's got Jackie in the front seat and he's going to demonstrate a brake and turn for her right now. He's going to show her the ropes.
Okay, that should be interesting.
Yeah, I feel bad for both of them.
Nice!
You guys, oh my God, I can't do this.
You flipped a car less than 3 weeks ago, you can hammer a couple of cones.
You need a pooper scooper? Oh my God. You're fine.
No, it was actually, uh—
You drive like that all the time.
It was really scary.
Anthony has taught Jackie everything she needs to know about brake and turn, but now he's gonna get her to do it and do it right. That means without killing any of his cones. Jackie's seeing orange and headed to a wall of cones. She's only halfway through, but she thinks she's nailed it. No cones were hurt. This time, Jackie's not slowing down in front of any cones.
Come on, Jackie, get serious here.
Larry makes the ultimate sacrifice. Anthony gives Jackie one last chance. The cones wait in anticipation. Harry gets a haircut, but Jackie makes the grade.
I saw a huge change in Someone who came in, it was tentative and a lot of anxiety yesterday morning.
I really did, you know, I thought it was amazing because I learned how to take full control of whichever way I want to turn. I was so scared I couldn't even get into the car. Now?
It's gonna be real dangerous. Yeah, and I'm kind of worried about putting them in my car. I don't know, we'll have to figure it out.
Christy and I couldn't resist having a little fun for ourselves, so we decided to take the wheel, burn some rubber, and pass the course.
Remember, we hit 3 cones, your partner's going to stand there, okay?
Machine beat Matt.
This isn't bowling, Christy, this is driving through cones. Watch your speed, nice early turning.
Practice really does make perfect. And as you keep doing it, you're going to be less and less nervous and more in control. More in control of your environment, more in control of yourself. And that's the whole goal. That's what Xtreme School is all about. So that you can progress. You go from being powerless, essentially, to empowered.
Thank you.
Thank you for recognizing the instructor.
Coming up next on Extreme School, we meet a partner at an international brokerage firm who challenges Extreme School to compromise his trading system. Christy and I break in wirelessly offshore, exposing the security risks to his firm. Start searching our files with names like taxes, Social Security numbers, credit card information. We go undercover as information extortionists and force the firm to buy back the sensitive information. Finally, we show the partners just how to protect themselves and keep their information secure. That is extreme school, baby!
