Aquaponics: BackYard Greenhouse Growing System

A walkthrough of a backyard aquaponics system with seedling trays, media beds, and raft beds growing lettuce, basil, peppers, tomato, and cucumber. The water chemistry is still being balanced and no fish have been added yet, but once they are, the system will cycle nutrients and plants should grow fast.

Here's a video of the aquaponics system that's growing in our backyard and the status of it. We have some seedlings starting in this center section here where we do our plantings and start plants from seed. You can see we've got some good seedlings starting to come in that then we move over to the media grow bed. Continue to propagate and develop, get a little bigger, and then we move them down to the raft bed down here and we plant them in these raft bed spots to see if we can get them, get them going. Some take, some don't, but we, we try and get them going down here, see if they'll take off and grow. We have lettuces. These are basil you're looking at, center of the screen. And that one is a bell pepper plant right there that you're looking at. And I believe that's a cauliflower there. And I believe that's also a bell pepper right there. And then up here we have a variety of plants. We have some tomato plants, and you can see that we have tomatoes growing in here already. Cauliflower is in here. We have some cilantro growing, and we also have a cucumber plant in here too. As you can see, that's what's growing in here, and everything seems to be doing pretty well. We're, we're still trying to get the, the water chemistry completely balanced, and get— you know, we still haven't added any fish yet, so So we're trying to make sure that the water is safe before we plunge into adding any fish to the system. But that would be the thing to do. That's actually cauliflower right there. I don't know if you can see it. Right there we have some cauliflower starting to form in there. So things are definitely growing in here and the water chemistry is getting better all the time. Once we add a a few fish to the fish tank down here, things will start really kind of, really kind of fully balancing, and the water will be highly nourishing to the plants, and we'll see some very rapid growth once that happens. So we're still working on it now, but it's coming along. Thanks for watching. Bye.
