Rob Greenlee says podcasters are obsessed with RSS feeds while audiences just want good content. The industry built itself around RSS as the defining principle, but listeners stopped caring about that years ago. The mismatch between what the industry promotes and what people actually want is the real problem.

If I had to identify the root of the problem with audio podcasts, I'd say it's because the industry has never truly listened to its non-podcaster audience, the actual listeners. Yeah, I think we've decided that we're gonna chart our own path and we like RSS and we're gonna put all of our energy behind it and it's gonna be our defining principle. Is that we're gonna be RSS. And that may be, you know, there was good reason for that for many, many years. But I do think times have changed now and that RSS is not the primary thing that people think about. It's still part of the ecosystem and it's still important to creators and the people that distribute this content. It's an important player in this, but the listener side just doesn't care anymore. What they see is content.
