Rob Greenlee, with two decades in podcasting, argues creators must move beyond gut instinct toward data-driven decisions. Podcasters face a choice: prioritize their own perspective or what audiences actually want. Content will be judged on its measurable return on attention.

The choice that we have is do we want to embrace it or do we want to, to just do it from our gut, which is like we've always done. I know I've always, as a 20-year podcaster myself and working for lots of podcast hosting platforms and Microsoft and all these, everything was really funneled through this human judgment filter, right? We didn't really get a lot of data. We didn't get a lot of feedback. We didn't get a lot of input around various things that maybe we got wrong and maybe we did it wrong. Maybe we didn't do it wrong. And the question that we have to ask ourselves is the audience right or are we right? So I think that's a big kind of mental adjustment that podcasters are going to be faced with. You can either embrace it or not, but I think it's coming and your content is going to be judged on these same characteristics in its ability to find audience and to have that return on attention.
