The Nomono Sound Capsule Solves Podcasting's Biggest Problem

Rob Greenlee unboxes the Nomono Sound Capsule, a wireless system with clip-on lapel mics that record locally and sync to a base unit for noise reduction and spatial audio. Each mic has onboard memory, eliminating cables and mixers, and the system captures clean audio even in noisy conference rooms.

My name is Rob Greenlee, and I'm here for a very special unboxing of the Numano sound capsule from Numano out of Norway. So I just got this shipment today. It just, it's in a box that was shipped to me from Norway, and I just wanted to open it up and show you what it's all about. So if you were to ever order one of these things, you know what it's like and what's in the box and what you get. So this one came from Norway directly. It's a demo unit that I'm going to be taking with me to Podcast Movement as we share this with podcasters and what the opportunity that this new innovative technology from Numano is going to bring to podcasting. And that's terrific audio, which we all want and we all need, and we all want to do what we can to produce the best audio for our listeners. I've been following this company for a better part of a year now and have seen this product develop and improve and get to a point where it's passed all its electronics inspections and certifications. And from what I hear from the company right now, it's ready to go. It's ready to start some relatively full-scale production and get out to as many pre-orders as possible. So what I want to do is just show it to you. So this is what it looks like. Comes right out of the box. This is the first time I'm looking at it too, coming out of the box. So it has this strap that supports it, and it has this kind of cool box that it comes in that's really deep that keeps it really secure, and I will definitely hold on to that as a place to potentially store it safely. But you just take this top wrapper off and it fully exposes the sound capsule. It has two parts to it. It's got this little It's got some instructions and it has a charging and transfer wire. It looks like it's a USB-C, so that's the latest technology, the fastest transfer speeds and the fastest charging speeds as well. So this is a base unit that has kind of battery storage in it that charges all of the units that are in it that I will show you in a second, and then Before I open this up, what I wanted to do is actually show you this container here that has some accessories in it. It has a place to store your little microphones. So when you take this device on the road, you can just put the microphones in here if you want to and store them. And then it also has some other capabilities in here as well. So if you just wanted to have a little transport container, that's what this is. And then, so let me open up the unit itself, and this exposes the actual Nomono sound capsule and its base unit. This is a spatial audio unit that has microphones all the way around it and a little kind of control pad up here that basically you just push this button after you've basically put these little clip-on microphones on. So you can see those here. Just clip them onto your lapel or on your shirt. And it also has a magnet as part of it too. So you can just do this under your shirt and it will actually hold the microphone right there in the middle of your shirt. So it has that kind of optional functionality because sometimes it's just not possible to get a collar or something like that to clip this onto. But each one of these things actually has its own memory in it. So it will actually record the audio from each of the 4 subjects, or so here's 2 of them. So you can have up to 4 people all in one recording. So it's a very versatile platform in that way as well, or you can just use one. So it gives you that full capacity to do recordings wherever you want to do it with up to 4 people. And so that's very powerful, especially being wireless. And they record locally inside the microphone. And then once the recording is over, it transfers it to the base unit, which is this. And it basically picks up all the ambient sounds. So these little areas on the base unit have little microphones. And what it's doing is it's picking up all the ambient sound that's around this capsule. So when it gets— when the audio gets transferred up to the cloud, it basically has a base level audio sound that it can— it knows about, so it can potentially filter that out of the recording. So basically gives you the ability to throttle how much noise you want in the recording. Some people like to have a little bit of noise in their recording, and other people want to just strip it all out. And get it to like a studio-sounding quality. And then some people want to use this to create a spatial audio experience too. So if you happen to be in a studio that has good acoustics or whatever, you can actually create this sound depth to the audio recording that a lot of kind of like storytellers to have in their own little studio. And it's really convenient. You just clip on these microphones. You can actually hide it in your in your clothing. So if there's any kind of video recording, you wouldn't necessarily see the microphone. A lot of these productions are not video, they're just audio only. So it does have that capability to create high-quality audio recordings. I don't believe that this came charged, so I'm not going to be able to start it up here. I'm going to have to charge it up first before I can do that. But I just wanted to create this little quick video of the unboxing of the Neumann Sound Capsule out of Norway. I'm going to be at Podcast Movement with the Nomano team and giving demos of this and actually trying to use this during some sessions at Podcast Movement as well to record the audio of a panel up on stage and see what the audio sounds like out of that. Because some of the panels, the environment around them can be noisy, and so this type of a recording platform could be very helpful to even conferences to record sessions. So maybe at some point in the future, we will see more of these type of platforms being utilized at conferences to get terrific sounding audio out of what is normally a fairly noisy type of an environment and be able to put that out as a podcast or as an on-demand video, because this could be layered in with a video production as well. So I'm excited for it. I'm really excited to be able to use this and get it out in front of people in the podcasting space and in the community so they can see this thing in action as well and just see what the future looks like for audio recording that is a lot more convenient and easier than what we traditionally had to do with our home studios and our recording things where we got to get the mixers and we got to get these expensive microphones and we have to get all these wires and all this stuff. Where this is really as simple as walking up with this thing with the microphones and putting it on people and just putting, pushing this button, record. And then you basically record it all in here and it gets uploaded to the cloud, the Nimano cloud, that basically enables you to do all the post-production, noise reduction, optimization, and to be able to output the kind of audio that you would want. So very excited for it. Thank you so much for watching this video and share it with your friends, share it with whoever, and follow me on my channel here at Rob Greenlee. And I will bring you more information about the Numano platform and how it works. So thank you so much for watching and subscribe to my channel, click the like button, do all of the things that you normally do with your YouTube channels., and would love to have you back with me again for my Behind the Wheel series, my Trust Factor series, and any other thing that I put up about all sorts of different things that I'm working on. The audio and media space, I'm also working on a project called Unaligned. It's an AI project as well, creating content. So that's what I'm really specializing in, but audio is still my passion. So thank you so much for watching and we'll see you next time. Bye.
