Alex explains why RSS, which powers audio podcasts, struggles with video. As platforms embed video directly, RSS will likely become a specialized tool for open distribution while proprietary solutions take over most video podcast delivery.
And so, Alex, do you have an opinion on what the future role of RSS feeds looks like for supporting video in, in those RSS feeds for podcasting?
Absolutely, Rob. RSS has been the backbone of podcast distribution for years, and while it's great for audio, it faces challenges with video. The future likely involves more platforms integrating video directly, making RSS less central for video distribution. That said, RSS will still play a role for those who want open distribution, but it might evolve or become more specialized as platforms move toward their own proprietary systems for video.
