A team uses color-coded heart emojis in Slack to show how they're feeling each day, from green (okay) to black (struggling). Managers can spot who needs support without scheduling more meetings, then reach out privately with resources and encouragement.

We also do mental health check-ins. So we have in Slack, we have these color-coded hearts where we just put them in and you're green if you're okay today and it goes down all the way to black, I'm struggling. That way people can just drop a heart and then we can reach out one-on-one and have a discussion. So that doesn't have to be a big deal, doesn't have to be open, but a lot of times people will not come to you and say, hey, I'm struggling, but if you give it, open the door and give an opportunity, then they may reach out and say, okay, yeah, I could actually use a little bit of encouragement here. So that's one thing that, you know, we did just to kind of have check-ins, but not also stress people out with having to have more check-ins and more Zoom calls and things like that, trying to offer support, but also limit it so that it's not adding to the extra stress and pressure.
