Startup ecosystems in Canada and Latin America fail because leaders compete with each other instead of collaborating. Three rules fix this: put the ecosystem before your ego, find and empower new leaders, and connect people to new opportunities.
Chapters
Yeah, so on my experience in Canada and in Latin America is that actually, you know, the fragmentation and the competition between startup community leaders is like by far the big inhibitor for the growth of the startup ecosystem. And no matter what kind of city you have, what kind of country, it will happen because entrepreneurs and community leaders have big egos. So try to think always with the 3 key rules: community, community, community. Being a startup leader, ecosystem leader, is a big responsibility. That doesn't mean that you are the CEO of the startup community. That means that your role actually is to identify the new upcoming leaders so you can pass the beaker. You have to empower new leaders so the ecosystem can grow. If there are people coming, okay, I want to launch this initiative, this new community, good, I'm gonna support you, I'm gonna be the connector, I'm gonna make the intro, I'm gonna help you. If you have that mindset, I think you can build such amazing, great things.
