Messaging vs. Video Meetings: Which is Better?

Use messaging for routine updates, video calls for problem-solving and sensitive conversations where tone matters. Clear expectations about which channel to use saves time and keeps remote teams connected.
like use your virtual meeting time to really solve problems and collaborate and set goals. So our goals for this week is to accomplish XYZ, and then let them report status through an asynchronous way, through Slack, through an email, through something like that, so that you don't waste time just reporting status when you're— it's valuable face-to-face time, right, when you're remote working. So you want to use that the best that you can.
Got it. So these, these tools, the Slacks, all that kind of stuff, great for just status reporting, but the face-to-face stuff, use that to problem solve, to brainstorm, to plan, that kind of stuff.
Right, right. Set expectations so that, you know, that communication is clear.
Makes sense. Okay. And conversely, the setting of the expectations and those types of things, the hard conversations should not be done in, in the messaging tools because that removes all the tone and leaves a lot to interpretation.
Yes, yes. So I would highly encourage you to jump on a Zoom. Zoom is the best, right? Because I can see your face, so I can see that nonverbal communication. I have been on team meetings where I said something and then immediately I could see their face drop. And I'm like, oh no, like, I didn't think that was a bad thing. But apparently I should have prepared and prepped that conversation better. Right. But if I had been on Slack or on the phone, I would have never seen that. And I would have totally missed that that team member felt, you know, upset about what I had just said or what I had just presented, right? So it gives me an opportunity after the fact to go back personally one-on-one and say, hey, just want to clarify this, didn't mean anything, because I could see that immediate reaction, right? So you want to, you want to do that for sure.
