VCs want founders who tackle the hard side of building: creating real value and generating demand. Anyone can succeed in a supply-driven market where buyers show up automatically. Real founders solve difficult problems and build sustainable demand, not just ride easy markets.
You know, we've had a lot of founders who come to me and, you know, it's a— let's say it's a supply-driven market, meaning whoever has the supply, the buyers just show up. And they keep telling me how great they're doing at building up all the demand, all the buyers. I'm like, guys, I don't care. That's the easy side. I know you're making progress there. Of course you're making progress there. A 12-year-old could make progress there because that's the easy side. What I want to see you make progress on is the hard side. And that's the difference between a real founder and a person who's just trying to pretend.
