251: 3 Beliefs You Need to Create a Signature Talk

In this solo, motivational video, Sally Koering Zimney (Sally Z) introduces three core beliefs that she says are essential for turning the desire to create a signature talk into actual action. She frames the talk as a process that evolves over time, emphasizes that developing a signature talk is as much personal development as speaker skill-building, and insists that the speaker must believe they belong on stage. Throughout, she shares personal anecdotes, encourages listeners to subscribe and engage, and promotes an upcoming "Signature Talk Studio" masterclass series starting October 21, 2020, which promises behind‑the‑scenes secrets and step‑by‑step guidance for purpose‑driven entrepreneurs and changemakers. The video blends informal, cozy storytelling (set at her parents' cabin in snowy Minnesota) with clear, actionable messaging aimed at moving both the speaker and their future audience.

Well, hey everybody. On the show today, we are talking about 3 beliefs that you need if you want to bring that signature talk that is in your heart to life. Are you ready? Let's dive in. Hey movers, it's Sally Z with Be Moved. Let's go create some talks that will move this world. We're going to talk with amazing speakers, share tips, tricks, resources. And we are going to be moved so that our audience can be moved. This moved me. What is moving you? So I'm here today at my parents' cabin, which is a wonderful little getaway for me and my family. It's one of my favorite places in the world to be, and it's snowing right now, and it's very cozy, and I'm a little chilly, I'm not gonna lie. We're making it work. Do you want to see the snow? I bet you do. Here, let me show you. Oh my gosh, it's happening. Welcome to Minnesota. Could be October. There could be a huge snowstorm. It is October, right? I don't know. It's 2020. Everything's a little weird. If you're new to me, hello, my name is Sally Koering Zimney and I am your virtual speaker coach. I help purpose-driven entrepreneurs and changemakers like you leverage speaking in your business so you can step on stage with more courage and clarity and finally leave self-doubt and obscurity in the dust. It's time for you to step out front. You want to create a signature talk. You do, because that's why you're watching this. And there's good reason for that. Oh my gosh, you guys, a signature talk is your foundational messaging piece in your business. Yes, it helps you create that keynote so you can step out front, say yes to that conference request, say yes to that workshop request. Just say yes without all the panic. Can we please be done with the panicking? I get it, but it doesn't help us do our best work. Instead, when you have a signature talk, you can say yes because you've got all the messaging tools that you need. You've got this beautiful, solid, trustworthy talk that you can then take and use in hundreds of different ways. So yes, we're on board with the signature talk experience. That's great, but there's a big difference between I want to do this and I'm doing it. And so I want to talk about that gap, and what is in that gap are 3 really important beliefs that we're going to help you bring to life within you. Because once you believe these things, once you understand them and know them, then you jump in, create that signature talk. If you haven't yet hit subscribe— wrong way. Okay, there. If you haven't yet, hit subscribe. This is hard. Why is it so hard? I'm really— I've been practicing. There, it's right here. If you haven't yet hit subscribe, I hope that you will and join along with me here on the podcast This Moved Me and also here on the YouTube channel, because every week I come to you with tips and tricks and insights to help you leverage speaking in your business so that ultimately you can move your audience. Sounds good. Hop in the comments, say hello. I'd love to say hello back and meet my fellow movers. So I want to talk with you about 3 really important beliefs that we need to get us from the place of I want to create a signature talk to I'm going to, I am ready, bring it on. On. Okay, and the first belief that I want you to embrace is the belief and understanding that this is a process. Here's why I think that's important to know, because sometimes we put so much pressure on ourselves that this talk has to be everything and do everything, and so that can hold us back from even taking steps forward. So what I want you to know is that you start, you create and it evolves. It is a process. The process of creating your signature talk does something to you. It does. I've helped now hundreds of people create their signature talks, and I can tell you it changes you. It helps you step out front and gets you ready to become a thought leader in your area and your business. The second thing I want you to know is that the process of creating your signature talk is not just speaker development. It's not just learning the process and learning the skills and becoming a more skillful speaker. It is personal development. And you need to believe that and know that and be willing to step into that space if you're going to do this well and do it in a way that ultimately creates a talk that moves your audience. So guess what? It's personal development. Speaking is very personal. The skills that we need to step out front with courage and vulnerability and impact, to get there, it's personal development. There's no way around it. So if we think we can just kind of hold the personal development at bay— Sally, just teach me all of the things that I need to know, give me the process and teach me the thing— you're gonna get up front and have maybe a skillful, correct, you know, more perfect sort of talk, but it's not going to move people. It's not going to matter. That's why I call my work Be Moved because we have to be moved if we want our audience to be moved, and we do. So it's personal development. What a cool bonus! Now the third and final belief that I want you knowing in your soul, or at least convincing yourself of again and again and again, is that you belong out front. You belong out front. Most people don't believe that about themselves until they actually do it. There's so much self-doubt that accompanies the process of stepping out front and becoming a speaker. I get it. I, I feel it too. It is a part of this process. But the belief I want you to start working on right now— do you hear me? I want you working on this right now— is that you belong out front. You do. It's really important. I remember as a young entrepreneur watching these less talented, less skilled people have wild success simply because they believed that they could. And more often than not, we are the ones holding ourselves back. So I want you to right now start telling yourself, I belong out front. Even if you're not a capital S speaker, even if you don't have a book, even if you don't have a zillion followers yet on all of the whatever platforms, it doesn't matter. It doesn't mean that you don't have something important and valuable and needed to offer this world. But you gotta step out front, so you gotta believe that you belong in that moment. So that's it. Starting on Wednesday, October 21st, the Signature Talk Studio opens, and I want more of you in there and believing that you can do it. It's a process. Oh my gosh, is it a process. It's a process. It's a process. But the process works in you and on you, and by the end of it, You're a different person. That sounds big, but it's personal development as much as speaker development. And then lastly, you belong out front. You're needed out front. Your voice is needed. These 3 beliefs are really essential if you want to bring a signature talk to life. Let's bring it to life. It's in you. I'm pulling it out of you. Signature talk. Now my friends, starting on October 21st, 2020, I'm offering 4 masterclasses, 5 behind-the-scenes secrets to your wow-worthy signature talk. I love long titles. I don't know what to tell you. And this masterclass is super powerful because I'm gonna share with you the behind-the-scenes secrets that I have used with my speakers over the last 20 years to help them step out front with a wow-worthy talk, a talk that doesn't just move their audience but has moved them as well and helped them step out front owning their voice in a bigger way. It's awesome, and I want to see you there. Go here, I'll put the link in the description, and I will see you over in the masterclass. Bye for now. This moved me. What is moving you?
