What does it take for you to seek out support? Most of the time people come to me because they're backed into some kind of corner, right? There's a high-stakes, high-risk opportunity and they really don't want to screw it up. Or maybe a boss or a coworker, a fellow entrepreneur has said, "You know, I think you need to do this." Or maybe you're one of those rare people who seeks out support before they're backed into a corner, who says, "I see something bigger for myself and I know I can't get there on my own and I want some help. I want some support. I want some encouragement and empowerment to help me get there." But really the question is how. How do we do that? The secret to that success I'm gonna share with you today. Hey movers, it's Sally Koering Zimney with Be Moved. Let's go create some talks that will move this world. We're gonna talk with amazing speakers, share tips, tricks, resources, and we are going to be moved so that our audience can This moved me. What is moving you? I'm Sally Koering Zimney, and I empower purpose-driven entrepreneurs and changemakers like you to leverage speaking on behalf of your business or your idea so you can unleash your authentic voice and grow your business, finally leaving self-doubt and obscurity in the dust. Speaking is such an incredibly powerful tool, so I am so glad that you're here. Now, before I get into the episode, I really want to highlight this tool that I'm using right now. So if you're watching me on YouTube, you can see I've got these really cool things right here. Yeah, right there where I'm like, see that? Yes, here it is. This cool stuff right here. I can do that with this tool called Ecamm Live that helps me show up virtually for my audience in all kinds of different ways. In Facebook Lives, going live on YouTube, recording interviews with other people, recording videos just like this one, It's like having a production suite on my computer that I can use all on my own. It's awesome. I love it. I fell in love with this tool a few months ago, and it has really allowed me to step into video in a much bigger way. And every time I go live, somebody asks me, how does it look that way? How do you make it look so cool like that? Those overlays that you're using, how you incorporate music and countdowns and all the fun stuff that you can use in a live stream. And I say it's Ecamm Live. And so I'm really excited to share with you a link that you can use to get your first 14 days free. So just go to bemoove.com/ecamm and you can check it out for yourself. We all know it's so incredibly important that we are visible with our audience, especially in this virtual world, so I'd love for you to check it out. Okay, now let's dive into today's show. It starts with this moment that happened on Zoom a few months ago, and this speaker friend of mine said to me, "You know, I have the dream, Sally. I want to do the TEDx talk, I want that big conference talk, I want the spotlight, I want that kind of influence and credibility that comes with those moments. But then she said, but I really only focus on speaking when I have to. I was like, oh, oh no, it's another have-to person. She said, when I'm up against the clock, I focus on it. When I get asked to speak, when I have to, when it's on the calendar. And then in those moments that I'm prepping for it, I hate it. She said, I panic, I avoid it. It like eats up weeks of time and it's just so much frustration. So whenever I think about prioritizing speaking in my business, I mean, I know how powerful it can be, Sally, you're always telling me and I know it, but I just get this sinking feeling in my stomach because it wreaks havoc on my life. And I'm like, "Oh, please, you do know this does not have to be the way it goes. It does not have to induce panic or frustration or making you miserable. No, no, no." We've got to stop putting off getting better. Now, sadly, that is not an unusual story. I have heard it again and again and again. Over the past 20+ years of coaching people, one of the truths that keeps bubbling up to the top is that most people don't get help until they need it. Now, the rare few who step in more instead of reactive, they're being proactive and they're saying, I want to create more of this in my life. I want more speaking in the next year. I want to master this, skill so that I can be more visible. They're not backed into a corner. They're not panicked about their timeline. They're saying, I wanna create more of this. And that sort of intention helps them dream bigger and do bigger. That's really what I want to invite you into in the next year, because speaking's vulnerable and it's personal, and there's a lot of reasons why we might avoid that kind of experience. And so it makes sense that either we avoid it altogether or we just muddle through on our own. And I know why we do that, because it feels safer. And it might be safer emotionally, but I promise you, it's not as effective. It's not as empowering. We're not going to dream and create something that we cannot even see for ourselves yet. And it's for sure less fun. For sure less fun. I wanna make the case for you in this show to not go solo in your speaking development this next year, to invite in a community of people to help you uplevel your speaking. And I wanna share with you 3 of the big reasons why it is better if we do this together. You don't have to do this alone. In fact, I don't want you to, okay? Whether it's me or another community, I hope it's me and I hope it's my community, but if not, I want you to find someone and find a community that can help you uplevel your speaking. So I want to share with you 3 of the biggest reasons why community is so essential for your speaking development. First is that you get a clearer image of yourself. Now, we as humans We are notoriously bad mirrors for ourselves, like the worst, terrible. I mean, it is totally predictable when I am working with my speakers that as soon as a speaker watches themselves at all, they are shocked by what they see. They are shocked by things that nobody else is shocked about because we've seen these things all along. They're like, I had no idea my face Did that, Sally? Why didn't you tell me? Why didn't you tell me that I walked that way, Sally? I mean, how come nobody's ever mentioned that my voice is so weird? And I'm like, nobody's mentioned it because, uh, nobody else thinks it's weird. I mean, we the audience, we have gotten used to you much faster than you get used to you, right? And unless that thing that you think is really weird is distracting. It's not worth worrying about. But when we don't have a clear image of ourselves, we tend to do that. Now, of course, there are some things that we do have to work on and that awareness is helpful for, but knowing which things to let go of and which things to focus on is really not an easy distinction to make on our own. But having a community or a coach around you that you trust, well, that can help us see beyond the stupid things that hold too many of us back from really stepping out front. And our job as a community and a coach is to give you a clear image of yourself so that we can help reveal this genius that is right below the surface that sometimes we cannot even see for ourselves. Community can help us do that. Now, the second big benefit of having a community or a coach around you that you trust is that you can get pulled out of really unhelpful mindset blocks way more quickly. So when we step into community, we're ultimately reminded that we are not alone in our struggle. It turns out you're not the only one who's really struggling with how to show up virtually and do a keynote on Zoom, right? Not alone on that. It turns out you're not the only one who's wondering how exactly to start off their talk. It turns out you're not the only one who isn't quite sure how to prep for that specific audience. It turns out you're not the only one who doesn't have a pre-talk ritual and you're feeling really scatterbrained. Or how to deal with negative feedback, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. You're for sure not the only one. And sharing your struggle with a community and hearing from others who have been there or who are there currently It helps you feel like you can move through it because other people have. And of course, you can figure a lot of this stuff out on your own. Google it. There's a lot of videos out there, kind of like this one. But knowing that you are not alone and that you have a group of people that you can go to that you trust, it eases the journey. And that matters because It can be kind of a bumpy journey sometimes. Now, the third reason why community is so essential and empowering for us in our development as speakers is because community helps us see what's really possible. Now, this past summer in my first cohort of the Signature Talk Studio, one of the most surprising and totally unforeseen benefits of doing this in community was that there was one person who was kind of leading the way in the group. And it was so inspiring for everybody else in the community. I mean, her success really pushed other people. And because she was just right in front of them, they knew what was coming. It was so powerful for her community members to see see her doing that. And they saw what was possible because of her. Having each other in that process, that was huge. And I didn't totally expect that. I kind of thought, I'm, I'm the coach, I'm the teacher. But I think one of the ahas that I had in that was that you teach each other, you encourage each other, you help each other see what's possible and inspire each other on the journey, speaker to speaker. And all of this is why I have prioritized community in 2021. It's how we are going to help you get beyond the "I prep when I'm stuck in a corner or when I have to." We're going to move beyond the just thinking about becoming a more moving speaker to actually doing it. From, I want to prioritize speaking, or I want to grow my audience with speaking, or I want to earn more revenue with speaking, I want to get in on that big stage. Yes, yes, yes, we are going to be live again at some point together. And you want to get on that stage, you want to influence and lead and empower and inspire. We're going to shift you from I want 'but' to 'I want' and 'I'm going to.' I am growing my audience. I am growing my business. I am growing my revenue with speaking. I am growing my impact with speaking. So if you found yourself nodding along with any of what I have talked about here, I really want to invite you into my new Movers U community. The new MoversU can be your go-to soft landing, your go-to place for answers to your questions, for tools in your growth, and support and empowerment for you the whole way along in the journey. Now, my goal with MoversU is to help you uplevel your speaking so that you can grow your audience and your revenue and your impact. And Every month we tackle one of the four seasons of speaking, that being content development, delivery development, mindset development, and business development, aka getting you the gigs.
