Effective speaking means delivering one clear idea, not three or four. Speakers often overload talks with too much content, leaving audiences confused. Discipline and simplification are what actually move people.

Now, I am someone who is equally passionate about delivery and content development, because if our content is created with intention and discipline, we have a chance of being clear. And clarity is essential. Simplifying your message enough that your audience walks away with that one idea— it's really hard. I mean, most of the time we're passionate about what we're saying, and there's— we have so much to share, and know so much that our talks are actually jammed full of 3 or 4 ideas and our audience walks away overwhelmed and unclear. No, we need to be crystal clear if we want our audiences to be moved.
