#ThisMovedMe Episode 6: The Self-Trust Multiplier

In this solo motivational episode, Sally Z (Sally Koering Zimney) uses a personal DIY tile‑removal story to illustrate how tiny, brave "micro moves" act as a compound‑interest mechanism for self‑trust. She explains that each small action creates concrete evidence of capability, which multiplies confidence and makes larger projects feel attainable. After describing her four‑month struggle to pry a single bathroom tile off the wall, she connects that experience to the broader challenge many people face: having big dreams (renovations, podcasts, books) but feeling stuck or incapable. Sally outlines a practical framework—identify a micro move, do it, and add the result to a "self‑trust stockpile"—and offers a downloadable tool on her website. The episode ends with a call for viewers to share their own moving moments and to take one micro action today, reinforcing the message that doing, not just thinking, builds self‑trust.

I'm going to tell you why I'm holding up this tile in just a second. Every tiny little micro move, brave move that you make matters. Probably the most important thing that it does is it creates evidence for your own belief in what's next, that you actually can. Compound interest. It's compound interest for courage, compound interest for belief, compound interest, tiny little micro moves One single tile. And self-trust that you can. One tile. Hey everybody, welcome to This Moved Me. My name is Sally Z. I am a speaker and a coach and an author, and I'm here to give you a moment to help you be moved so that you can be brave. A lot of people call me a professional nudger. So while I am professionally nudging people all the time, I myself need a nudge from time to time, and I've been really trying to nudge myself around this stupid tile project. So here's what moved me this week. I am not a DIYer. I'm nowhere near a DIYer. I have dreams of DIYing. I spend too much time looking on Houzz, or however you pronounce that website, dreaming. I mean, I have sketches of everything that I want to do to my house and my kitchen, but can I do any of it? No. You're like, Sally, hire it out. I have 2 kids in college. We're not even discussing that right now. But I am tired of waiting I am tired of waiting for somebody else. I am tired of feeling like I can't. I am tired of having a vision of what I want and it feeling still so far away. So I was like, you know what, that's it, I can figure this out. Okay, I've said it and I didn't believe it, but I said it. I can do this, I can figure this out. Well, I want to knock down walls in the kitchen and get new countertops and, and do that. My husband was like, how about before we go renovating, why don't you just work on some of the things that need fixing around here. Enter the tiles in our upstairs bathroom. It's our kids' bathroom. It's old, but it's fine. We had to take out these tiles because it used to be a towel rack. It doesn't really matter. The point is we had to remove these tiles. I researched. Me and ChatGPT had some fun. What do I do? I went to Home Depot and I came home with a plan. I had the spackle, I had the whatever, I don't know what to call it, but I knew what I was going to do. And lo and behold, bit by bit, I got that darn tile out. Success! I still need to put new tiles in, and here it is. It's not exactly the white, the white, right? The right white. It's not exactly the right white. I'm going to figure it out. I'm going to figure it out. But can I tell you, that tile popped off the wall and I felt like I won an award. It has been sitting there. Half done, undone, not done, broken for years, years. Even after, even after I said I'm going to do this, it sat there all summer. I bought this tile in June. It is now October. This is not a DIY channel. It's really not about DIY. It's about knowing what you want, having a dream, having a vision, and feeling stuck in terms of how to get there, feeling disempowered, feeling incapable, feeling a lack of belief. And instead of throwing our hands up and just being like, I guess this is how it is, what if we could make just the tiniest move, a micro move, to get you one step closer? Stupid tile. Micro move. Micro move. But it's happening. And now I actually believe I can figure this out. I can do this. It sounds dumb, but I see it all the time. People come to me with a dream, a vision. They name and claim something and then nothing. They're stuck without knowing how sometimes or lacking the belief to do it. I think I want to start a podcast. I think I want to get on stage. I think I want to write a book. And I'm like, yes, fantastic. Let's go. How do we get from where you are now to where you want to go? How do we move you? My tile that moved me literally from I don't think I can, I want to, but I don't think I can to I did it. I did it. One little tiny Brave move. These tiny micro moves are self-trust multipliers. That's what we want for you is more self-trust. Positive thinking and affirmations help. They do. They can bolster us sometimes, but nothing is as good as doing. The magic is in the doing. Doing is the thing. And I say that knowing it took me 4 months to get one tile off the wall. I get it. I need this message as much as anybody. Hi. But the more you do, the easier it gets because every time we do it, our self-trust multiplies. And then frankly, I look around that bathroom and I'm like, actually, there are a lot more tiles that need to be replaced than just these two. Do I feel capable and ready to retile the whole thing? Absolutely not. But I see a few that I could do. It started with one, but now I think maybe I can do this. That is not nothing. What would happen for you if your self-trust could be multiplied with these tiny micro moves? And what is one micro move that you could make today? One micro move that could create the evidence of your capabilities. Tomorrow. Sending an email you've been putting off, making that phone call that's scaring you a little bit, sharing that idea you've been keeping to yourself, showing up to that social event, reaching out to the publisher, buying that piece of equipment, trying imperfectly, but just trying, doing. Build the evidence of your capabilities, of your doing. Even if it goes terribly, you can look back and say, oh my gosh, I tried, I learned, and next time, here's what I would do differently. I've got something that will help if you are somebody who's like, ah, the self-trust thing you're talking about, Sally, I get it, but I don't get it because I don't know how to get from where I am here to where I wanna go. Well, we're gonna build the evidence of your doing. I call it the self-trust stockpile. It's a tool that's going to help you build your self-trust, and you can grab it at sallykoeringzimney.com. Z-I-M as in Mary, N as in Nancy, ey.com/self-trust-stockpile. I'll put the link below. It's just a tile, but I'm actually going to hang on to this one and find a spot for it because this is evidence, evidence that I can, that maybe I'm not ready to knock down walls yet. My husband is not sad about that. But I am not stuck. I can create my own life. I am the creator of my own life. You— we co-create together, but you are the driver. You are the doer. What can you do today to take you one baby step closer to your dreams? This moved me, team. What is moving you? I would I'd love to know. Throw some moving moments that you have experienced, seen, witnessed, been moved by yourself in the comments below. I'd love to see. I'll see you next week. Bye-bye. Next week.
