When is DOT post-accident drug and alcohol testing required? If your driver is involved in a DOT recordable crash, post-accident drug and alcohol testing may be required. A DOT recordable crash is a crash involving a commercial motor vehicle that results in a fatality, a person being taken from the scene by ambulance, or when any vehicle is towed from the crash site. If there was a fatality or your driver was issued a citation, post-accident drug and alcohol testing is required. Drivers must be tested for alcohol use within 8 hours and for drug use within 32 hours of a DOT-reportable accident. If you're unable to get a driver tested during this timeframe, you must clearly document and provide evidence as to why the testing wasn't completed within the required time limit. Thanks for watching and be safe out there!
