Bank feed-errors

Linda Artesani shows how to fix QuickBooks Online bank feeds stuck on "one day ago." Try the Intuit troubleshooting tool, check error codes, verify two-factor authentication, and reconnect the feed if it stays broken. Most issues resolve on their own by the next day.

Hi there, Linda Artesani, Artesani Bookkeeping. Has this ever happened to you? I just wanted to do a short video on the pain points of online bank feeds. There's a lot of misconception about what they're for. They're a real helpful tool. There's lots of fun things you can do to really fine-tune them, and I'll get into that in future videos. But if you ever logged in and seen what I call the spiraling circle of death, you look on and it says one day ago, it hasn't updated, so you come over here and just click Updating, you get three shots at updating, and then you get an error code that pretty much doesn't tell you a whole heck of a lot. It tells you to that they're sorry, we're temporarily unable to download information from your bank, and you can wait overnight to see if it's gonna work. And you get this; it's frustrating. Let's put it that way. What do you do? Well, they've created this really neat tool, and I have to thank Meg at the community online Intuit online community for sharing this. This little tool. And I'll put this in the feed bar at the bottom. It's a little tool that somebody over at Intuit created and it says right off the bat, before you start, first a warning, don't disconnect your bank account from QuickBooks Online. That's sometimes kind of necessary to reconnect if there's a clog in the system or if you've perhaps changed your bank— banking information, your online banking information. You do have to reset it if you reset your password. Also, if you change banks or maybe had a problem where somebody hacked into your account, you had to change your account number, you would have to do that. But in this case, I've just got this hanging problem. So what can you do? And if you just follow the steps here, the first step of course is to perform that manual update, which is what I clicked before, and it just, it's just spinning around and hanging and not really doing anything. But that's one of those things. So if it didn't, my transactions still didn't download, I click no. And then it says, did you get an error? Well, I have an error that contains a fix-it link. Well, I didn't get that. I have a more information error, so I didn't get a fix-it link. I just have a more information. So nope, I don't have a link in mine. So if you don't see links, check whether the error code— this error code matches any of the error codes listed below. Well, my error code, if I go back here, was 334. So I'm going to come back here and see if there's a 334. Oh great, they don't have my error code. Haha. So this is where I'm going to stop because it says if you don't see an error code, click Next. So I'm going to click Next and it's going to tell me that maybe I have a 2-sign-in feature at my bank. So some people, especially if they've been hacked, they'll go for that 2-sign-in and then you can go on to your bank site and see if you're able to log in on the bank site. So that's the next thing you can try to do is just log in on your own manually to your bank and see if you can log into your banking. So I could try to do that and see if it lets me log into my bank account. If I'm able to log into my bank account here, then I should be able to log into QuickBooks. So let me try to do my bank account and see what happens. And I'm able to log in. So if I'm able to log in, what does it tell me to do next? Yes, I was able to log in. Does your bank site display any words for you to receive, like there's a special offer or a mandatory password reset. So I don't have any of that, so I'm gonna go back and say no, I don't get any messages. Some banks may post about site or process changes, and did you receive any notifications about changes to online banking? Well, there's nothing here, so I'm going to click no again. In the meantime, before I go back to that, I want to see what's going on, and it's still spinning. So maybe I'm going to go over here and give it a little reset. I'm going to give it a little refresh of the page because maybe the page hung. That can happen as well. It's still hanging. So I'm going to go back to my little post here and say no. And then it tells me to connect to the sample company. So maybe I need to do this part of it to see if I can open a sample company and then run through the steps here and see if Maybe I'm able to log in. So it says open the sample company. If I click here, it's going to throw me out of the out of the QuickBooks over here because it's just going to open up a sample company and it's going to log me out of my personal company and then see if I can go through these steps. So this is a little tool that might help you through the bank feed problems that exist. You know, if you're able to go through there and get that done. Let's see what happens if I say no, I cannot. So it's going to tell me that there's a problem with QuickBooks Online and your bank is communicating with their engineers to resolve it. So that's one of the errors that you'll get. If you are able to download the transactions, then it's probably going to tell you to go to reconnect. So reconnect your bank feed and then reconnect it. I'm actually going to Click I understand and then I'm going to disconnect and you can go through the steps to disconnect. It's going to give you a little video here on how to disconnect and how to reconnect. And what I'm going to do here is what it suggested that I do and just wait till tomorrow. As frustrating as it is, I'm probably better off to just wait till tomorrow and then try a manual update. A lot of these things are fixed the very next day. I'll log in and I'm fine. So I would wait. It's kind of strange that I've got a couple of accounts that aren't updating. So you can go and go on to another screen here and just try to go to someplace else for a while. I've got 2 accounts that are actually having trouble, 2 different banks. Chase is different than Bank of America, so who knows what's going on with my bank feed. Clearly, I can, you know, I can try to update again when it stops running. I can log out, log back in maybe with a private window, and I'll get into that in another feed, another YouTube video later, but I just wanted you to see that even as an advanced ProAdvisor, I can log into my own account and have the same issues. So that's today's little short video. I know it's a little bit longer than normal, but a short video just to let you know what to look at if you have this problem. I'll share this link at the bottom of the page so you'll be able to log to it if you're having online bank feed errors. It's just a way To process through them. They happen to all of us. Yes, they're frustrating, but the bank feed feature is so positive. It saves so much data entry that if you have to live through these little days where they don't work, just coming back tomorrow will sometimes clear it all up. Thank you for listening, and I hope to see you back soon.
