In this tutorial, Linda Artesani of Artesani Bookkeeping walks viewers through the process of completely wiping a QuickBooks Online (QBO) company and starting fresh. She explains that users often jump into QBO without proper setup, leading to a messy chart of accounts and transactions. Artesani notes a recent UI change where "Customers" and "Vendors" have been renamed to "Sales" and "Expenses". She demonstrates the step‑by‑step procedure: from the dashboard, replace the word "Homepage" in the top navigation with "Purge Company", confirm the purge by typing "yes", and then choose whether to generate a new chart of accounts based on an industry or leave it empty. After completion, the file contains no transactions, customers, or vendors. She clarifies that this method applies only to the QBO Plus and Advanced plans, not Simple Start, and invites viewers to visit her Facebook page for more tutorials or personalized QuickBooks help.

Hi there, Linda Artesani, Artesani Bookkeeping. So I wanted to do a brief tutorial on how to start over. So I want you to imagine that you signed up for QuickBooks Online, you were excited, you didn't watch any of the videos, or you didn't really read into the information on how to set it up. You jumped right in, and when you did that, you imported transactions and you didn't set things up right, and it's just a giant mess, and it would be easier for you just to start Start all over. You go through all the paperwork, learn how to use the program, and just start fresh. So how do you do that? Well, first of all, I've made a little sample company here, and you'll see the new. This is the newer newest version. I have not seen this on any of my clients' files yet. They're rolling it out slowly. They've taken away the words customer and vendors and replaced it with sales and expenses. So if you want to see your customers, your customers are going to be in. under the sales. You just click sales and here's the word customers. So I created one customer named customer, and expenses would be under your— vendors would be under expenses. So come back to the dashboard because that's where you're going to do the purging. So you can see I've got a little data in here. I've got some income and an expense in here. So I want a clean slate. I want to start over. I don't want any transactions in my file at all. So what you're going to do is you're going to come up to this top page And where it says Homepage, you're just going to backspace on the word Homepage and type in the word Purge Company. You're going to hit that button and it's going to clean it up and it's going to ask you, are you sure you want to wipe your QuickBooks Online company clean? What will be deleted? And it gives you a list of the accounts that are going to be deleted, the transactions that are going to be deleted. Do you want to do that? If you say yes, you have to type the word yes in here, click OK, and it's going to ask you what kind of business is it. So I don't think I picked a business, but we'll just pick any business here. I'll just put in this and create accounts based on your industry. So you can pick a business and it will make you a new chart of accounts, or just leave it empty and then wipe the data. Now I've got nothing left in this file. It's completely zeroed out. I don't have any more customers. If I come into my customer list, you'll see my customer is gone. I'll come back to my vendor list. My vendor's gone. That is it in a nutshell of what you need to do to completely purge your company. I hope this video was helpful. Remember, this is not what you need to do for Simple Start. It's just for the other 2 programs. Thank you so much for watching, and I hope you will log into my Facebook page. Just go on Facebook and Google Artisani Bookkeeping, and it will come up. I'm the only one with that name. And then if you want any videos on any other topics, please write one down and I will make a video for you.
