7 Special Promotions You Can Run This Weekend For Subscription Boxes

In this live coaching session Sarah Williams walks product sellers, subscription‑box owners, and pre‑launch entrepreneurs through eight concrete promotion ideas they can launch over a three‑day holiday weekend (Memorial Day, but applicable to any holiday). She first explains why holiday weekends are prime for visibility—people have more free time and are scrolling on phones—then outlines four promotions for product sellers (BOGO ½‑off, Red/White/Blue themed sale, limited‑time weekend bundle, and Memorial Day mystery box) and two promotions for subscription‑box businesses (free gift‑with‑purchase and refer‑a‑friend weekend). Finally, she offers two list‑building ideas for those who haven’t launched yet (a patriotic giveaway and a patriotic freebie such as a wallpaper or checklist). Throughout she stresses the importance of picking ONE promotion, setting it up in advance (emails, social posts, ads), using scarcity/urgency, and aligning the promotion with the holiday calendar for future repeats. The session is informal, includes live‑chat interaction, and ends with a call to action for participants to commit to a single promotion.

Good morning, happy Monday everybody. Today we're going to talk about 7 special promotions that you can run this weekend. Memorial weekend is what we're talking about, but really you could take these ideas and apply them to any holiday weekend. So whether you're a product seller, I've got 3 promotions for product sellers. I've got 2 promotions for subscription boxes. And I've got 2 promotions for people that are in pre-launch that aren't selling anything yet. So I've got 7 total promotions I'm gonna talk to you about today. Let me know where you're joining me from. And also, if you would like to get the Monday morning text letting you know I'm about to go live for Monday Momentum, go ahead and just text me Monday to my text number right here. And that will get you a text every Monday when I'm live. I send out a text a few minutes before I'm live. And you can get the reminders. So go ahead and text me the Monday morning reminder. I'm gonna come over here to the chat and I'm gonna tell you— can you guys see this on camera? I don't know if I can only see it or if you— let me know if you see, see this. And I'm not going to say what it is so you could tell me what it is in the chat, but I'm going to tell you what happened. Uh, good morning Amy! I see Amy's over here on YouTube. Good morning Myra! Good morning, Jonica. Good morning, Denise. Good morning, Lexi. Um, good morning everybody. Good morning, Julia. Um, good morning Stephanie. Good morning Carrie. Um, yeah, so okay, so just a couple minutes ago I was getting all set up for the live, got my notes pulled up and everything. Um, all of a sudden we heard a pop and then the light started flashing in the warehouse. Like, let me show you this. I don't know if you guys can see this. Let me move my junk here so you can see this, but look in the warehouse. Like everything's just kind of flashing, but, um, nothing turned off. Like, the embroidery machines are still going, the, uh, my computer and ring light are still on. Um, so I don't know what happened. Um, we can't get our garage door open in the back. We were going to open that and see if somebody was working on something in the back, but that's the only thing that we can't function. And now we have these disco lights. I don't know what's going on. It should make today interesting, although probably all leave with a headache today if this is going to happen all day long. So aside from that, I want to dig in and talk a little bit about these promotions. So tell me where— tell me which one of these you are. I'm a product seller, I'm a subscription box owner, or I'm in pre-launch and I'm not selling anything. So let me know which one of those you are. Or maybe you're a product seller and a subscription box owner. We're going to talk through some promotions because here's what I want you to understand. Okay, I just lost all my lights in my office, um, and we lost half the lights in the warehouse. Hey, my ring light's working! We got it, we're gonna do this. Um, never mind the lights, everything will be just fine. So, um, this weekend, um, we have the opportunity to get visible because what happens, um, during a 3-day holiday weekend like we have. Memorial weekend is here. So we have Friday, Saturday, Sunday really to get visible. People are off work, people are out doing things, people are scrolling more than ever. When you think about a holiday weekend, you have more time on your hands, whether you're out on the boat, whether you're sitting at home, whether you're by the pool. You know, things are, you know, people are on their phones more. And then so we have opportunity to get visible. Nikki says, it's kind of funny that you're wearing a Be Bright shirt with no lights. Hey, I'm the light, girl. I am the light today. I will be the light today. We're not stopping it. So, um, here, here's what we're gonna do. So we want to get visible. I don't want you to sit the holiday weekend out. Do I want you to take some time off and enjoy your family and enjoy the weekend? Absolutely I do. Um, but if we Today's Monday. We have, we have all week to figure out a promotion, set it up and have it on lock over the weekend so we don't have to be by the computer. We don't have to be doing everything. We can set that up now. Okay, so let's talk about these 7 promotions. I want you to jot them down and I want you at the end of this live to tell me which promotion you think you will implement this weekend. And then all we have to do is set it up. Okay. And we can talk about that too. So let's talk about if you've got extra product on your shelves right now, you're a product seller, you're selling products. Let's talk about those one-off products. Okay, so number one promotion, and I love this one, is a BOGO. Okay, buy one, get one half off all weekend. Okay, that could be just a blanket sale all through your shop. You've got extra product laying around, you need to make some money, you need to get some cash back in your bank account, you need to sell some stuff you've got sitting on the shelf. Maybe it's been hanging on the shelf for a little too long. Let's do a BOGO. Let's do a buy one, get one half off. A buy one, get one half off is so much better than a 25% off everything sale because one, it forces people to buy 2 things instead of just 1, or 4 things instead of 3. Okay, we all know when we go shopping and there's a BOGO, you're automatically going to buy that extra piece to get the half off. Okay, then the half off Sounds way better than 25% off, but in reality it's 25% off both, both items, right? So let's make sure that if we want to do a blanket sale on our site, let's do a BOGO instead of just a percentage. It just lands better, it sounds better, it forces people to buy more products, which that's the goal, to get the products off your shelf. So we could set up a BOGO. Okay, so that's number 1. Number 2, maybe you do a red, white, and blue sale. Okay, anything in your shop that has red in it, white in it, or blue in it, it's X percent off. That could be 10%, 15%, 20%, 30%, whatever you want to do. Something like this shirt has white and blue in it, it's going in the red, white, and blue sale. It's going to be whatever off. That's a fun way to tie in the weekend. Um, you just pull a collection together, make it a percentage off, and then you can promote that all weekend. Okay. Um, actually have 4, I put 4 of these together, not 3. So we have 8, technically we have 8 promotions. Okay. Number 3 would be a special bundle just for the weekend. So maybe I tie some products together that are left over from my subscription box. Maybe I take a bag from the January box. Maybe I take a shirt from the March box. Maybe I take some scrunchies from the May box. And I put them in a special bundle and it's my Memorial Weekend Bundle, $39, grab the bundle. And I sell a special bundle only for the weekend. It's limited quantities, limited time, special pricing. So we could do a special bundle from extra product that we might have from our subscription boxes and we can do that for the weekend, okay? And then number 4, as far as extra product on our shelves, if I'm a product seller, um, is a Memorial Day mystery box. Load up some boxes with extra product that you have laying around, make it fun, and really remember that the goal is to liquidate product, not necessarily to make a bunch of money. So we want to stuff these mystery boxes with a lot of things so that they get the value. If you do put subscription box items in your mystery boxes, um, Just let people know that, hey, if you're a subscriber, there's a good chance that there is some past subscription box items in these mystery boxes. Just be transparent so they can make a decision on whether they want to buy one or not. But the goal is to get cash back in your business. Like, what can I get? Like, all those products sitting on my shelf are just lumps of cash that are sitting on my shelf. And if you really think about that, how do I get that cash off my shelf and back in my bank account. And that— a good way is through mystery boxes. So if you are a product seller, I got 4 options for you. Okay, buy one, get one half off, great promotion. Okay, red, white, and blue sale, pull items into a collection and make it a percentage off. A special bundle at a special price for a limited time, pull some things together and make a cute bundle. And then Memorial Day mystery boxes. Really load up some products, load up some boxes with some— you got boxes laying around. We all have boxes laying around in every shape, every size, whatever promotion we've had. We got like— I got boxes laying in my office. Load those boxes up. Load this Christmas box up. I got some Valentine's boxes out there. Load some extra boxes up that you have laying around, um, and let's get some cash back in our business. Okay, so those are our 4 promotions for product sellers. Now I put together 2 promotions for subscriptions. Maybe you want to use this weekend to grow your subscription business, to grow your subscription base. Maybe you've had some cancellations, maybe you need to fill some extra spots and they're kind of just hanging out around there. Um, so I've got 2 promotions for you that you could try one of these. So the first one is a free gift with purchase. Okay, so join now over the weekend and get a free bonus patriotic item in your box, something like that, or whatever bonus. But I like to put a little Memorial Weekend spin on it to promote the holiday. So for me, that could be I'm going to put a bonus t-shirt in your box. I'm going to put an a red, white, and blue earring in your, in your box. I'm going to do some free promotion if you join over the weekend. Now, you've got to be careful here because if your current subscribers see it, they're going to want it too. So I tend to pick a free gift that I have recently given to all my subscribers. So maybe I have some blue earrings that I just gave a couple of months ago in the subscription, and I could say join now and I'm going to add these blue earrings to your box. That way my subscribers already have them and there's not a lot of icky feeling about, well, I want that too. Okay, so think about it like that. But free gift with purchase, it's a great promotion. Make it Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, a 4-day promotion, free gift with purchase, get in now. Make it— you're creating scarcity, you're creating exclusivity, and you're creating urgency, which are the best 3 things that we need to sell something. Okay. Number 2, you could run a refer a friend promotion over the weekend. You could do like kind of like a set up like a friends and family weekend and you could maybe, maybe reward both the subscriber, the old subscriber and the new subscriber with a free gift if they refer a friend. Right. So there's something in it for them. So if I say, I send it out, an email to all my subscribers, and I say it's friends and family weekend. If you refer a friend and they put your name in the referred by box at checkout, um, I will put this gift in your box and their box, um, over the weekend. So you could do something fun like that, or you could give them like a discount to the shop if you refer a friend. You could, um, give them, you know, maybe a discount code or, you know, $20 off in your shop. Something like that and also give it to the new person. You could create a little coupon, throw it in their box, their next boxes, and let them use that for the entire month of June. So that would be a fun one if you're feeling iffy about giving a free gift because you don't really have anything that your subscribers don't, you know, that have already gotten that you would feel good about. Run a refer a friend promo over the weekend and just, you know, really put the message that Refer one friend and you'll get this, you know, one family member. Is there one person that you work with? If there's one friend you hang out with that loves your items from the box, refer them this weekend and you'll get X. You got to make it juicy though. You got to make it worth their while. So maybe that's a free t-shirt. Maybe for me, I'm just giving like my ideas. If you have a craft box, maybe that's an extra craft kit. Maybe it's a double, you know, like something exclusive. Maybe it was last year's Fourth of July kit or something like that. Maybe you don't want to do that because they've been a subscriber for that long, but maybe it's an extra piece. I know some of you do like, uh, decor, tier trays. Maybe you put an extra special exclusive piece in both of their boxes that goes with the coordinating craft. Um, think about your niche and what you can do, and then this would really encourage someone to go out and find you a new customer, and you're not paying a lot of marketing dollars. You're just adding another piece, which we know our costs on things are a lot lower than it costs to advertise. So they're advertising for you and you're rewarding both people. So that's a great, that's a great way to do, run a refer a friend weekend. Okay. So those are my two subscription box promotional ideas. Now, if you're sitting here and you're like, these are great ideas, Sarah, but I'm currently not selling anything and I haven't launched my subscription box yet. I've got you too. Okay, so I've got 2 promos that you can run this weekend to really help build your list and grow your following. Okay, so let's talk about number 1. Let's do a patriotic giveaway. Think about your box and what could you create that would be similar to what you're making, what you're creating for your box, but do it in a red, white, and blue. Do it in a, in a way that is really patriotic promotional. So let's think about like, I always use my box as an example. I'm trying to use a different one. Maybe you have a pet box and you haven't launched it yet. So you go and you find some things that are like red, white, and blue at the store and you go put a box together and maybe it's some toys, maybe it's some treats, maybe it's something, a cute little dangle on their collar, and, and you create this giveaway because you know that your box, when you launch it, is going to have treats and toys and cute accessories. And so for me, I would purchase some things, put it in a box, set up a giveaway this weekend. There's time for them to enjoy that because we have Fourth of July coming up, we have Labor Day coming up. And so if you do it now in promotion of Memorial Day, they're still going to have time to really enjoy their red, white, and blue box. So for me, if I was doing it for my own business, I might do a t-shirt, I might do a cute towel, beach towel, or a bracelet set or something like that that goes along with my business and run a giveaway. And then if I do it like I teach you inside Launch Your Box through the KingSumo and set it up like that, you're going to gain followers, you're going to gain emails. And so you can really use this to grow your following and grow your list. While people are scrolling on their phones this weekend. So do a patriotic giveaway. And the other one is to do a patriotic freebie. Okay, so we're still list building. We know the power of our email list. So what if you did some kind of patriotic freebie over the weekend? And you can run it longer than the weekend, but let's get it started and really make a big deal out of it over this weekend. That could be a patriotic wallpaper for their phone like I teach you inside Launch Your Box. That could be a patriotic tutorial if you are teaching something in your box or your membership, that could be maybe a checklist, some kind of freebie you could put together and start the promotion over the weekend while people are on the phone. Okay, so 7 ideas for you, 7 ideas. What I want for you is to pick one of them. I don't want you doing all of them. I don't want you doing several of them. Focus on one thing. One thing. Let me know in the chat what one thing you can do this, this weekend to make sales, grow your subscription, or build your list. It's one of those three objectives. What's important to you right now? Is I need cash in the bank? I need to make sales. One, I've got extra, extra subscription boxes. I'm going to have extra product. I need to grow that box. Or 3, I haven't— I'm not selling anything yet and I really need to grow my list. Focus on one thing for this. OK. And that's going to be beneficial for you. I said 7, but there's— I really gave you 8, so we've got 8 things, but it's not hard. Set up some emails, schedule some posts, maybe do a live on Friday and then take your weekend off. Set it all up on the back end to promote. If you want to run some ads, get your ads set up, schedule them to turn on when you're ready. But we can do this. It's not hard. We just have to be intentional about our marketing plan. And if we're not intentional about our marketing plan, we're not going to make any progress. One of these things is going to give you something. One of the sales is going to give you cash in your bank. One of the subscriber promotions is going to give you new subscribers, which is going to give you recurring revenue, or one of the pre-launch promotions is going to help you build your list. We have to, we have to take action. We can't keep sitting around and waiting for customers to find us. And this is an opportunity that I want you to understand we have multiple times a year. So you could technically take these 8 promotions and just rinse and repeat this for any holiday. So you could do one this holiday, and then you can think about the next holiday, which is Fourth of July for the states, and you could do a different one for Fourth of July. And you could take a look at your calendar and you could say, okay, I'm going to do a BOGO this weekend because I got a lot of products sitting on my shelves. 4th of July, I'm going to do a subscriber refer a friend. Maybe in August I'm out of town a lot and I don't need to pack and ship anything extra, so I'm going to run a giveaway to build my list. What promotion can you do and how do they line up with these holiday weekends? That's what I want you to think about because it gives you a lot of visibility. People are so busy during the week working, especially this time of year. I think women are just really busy and guys too, don't get me wrong, but Moms, if you got school-age kids right now, it's hectic. I got a son graduating on Saturday from high school, but we've got end of year choir, end of year band, end of year awards banquets, end of year ceremonies, end of year everything. It's exhausting. Every night we're doing something. Plus we got spring sports that are going on. It's crazy. So let's lock in Let's pick one promotion and let's get going. Because you know what's going to happen when people are sitting out by the pool? They're going to be scrolling on their phones. You know what's going to happen when people are out and about hanging out with friends and family? They're going to, they're going to have in-person time, but there's also going to be a time where they're winding down, scrolling their phones. Let's get in front of them. All right. I've got 8 different ways that you can get in front of them. Okay. I'll see you guys soon. Bye.
