Welcome back to Friday Fuel. I just wrapped up another round of member box openings inside Launch Your Box, and as always, it was full of amazing ideas some thoughtful curation and a lot of creative touches. But there was also some coaching moments that came up again and again. And I realized these aren't just tips for the members who submitted the boxes, but these are things that every subscription box owner needs to hear. So in today's Friday Fuel, I'm going to give you 3 simple, impactful ways to increase the value of your box without adding more products, without stuffing in more extras, or without spending more money. Because the truth is, is that your subscribers don't stay because your box is filled with the most stuff. They stay because of how your box makes them feel. So let's jump in. So one thing that I noticed right away during our member reviews was how powerful a simple theme or a story can be. Some of our members absolutely nailed this, whether it was like a monthly message of encouragement, some holiday tradition, or even like a seasonal theme with real meaning. They didn't just send products, they sent a story along with those products. And that story gave them the reason to be there. It gave every item in that box the reason to be there. So my question is for you, Are you helping your subscriber understand the purpose behind what they're receiving? Because when they understand the why, they really value the experience so much more. So I want you to go back to your next, your last box, okay? Or even go forward to your next box. And I want you to write out a short 2 to 3 sentence story or a message that ties all the items in that box together. And I want you to include it in an email sent to them or You can add it to maybe the insert that's inside the box. And if your box already has a theme, I want you to make sure your messaging is bringing it to life before they open that box. People don't just want the box. They want to feel something. We can get them into our subscriptions by the stuff. They see something cool and they want to subscribe, but that doesn't make them stay. The how they feel when they receive and open your box, that's how to make them stay. Okay, so let's put a story around it. Let's build a theme around it. Let's give the box a why. And if you can tell that story through the products, you're creating an experience that doesn't cost you any pennies more. Okay, now number 2, let's make it easy to use what you sent. So here's another big takeaway from these box openings. Some of the most loved boxes made it incredibly easy for subscribers to actually use the items inside that box. They weren't just sending products, but they were guiding the experience. Okay, let me give you some examples. Some of them had QR codes. Some of them had how-to cards, like how to use this, how to do this. Some of them had simple recipes. Some of them had step-by-step tutorials. And all of that increases the value without adding cost, maybe a tiny cost because you're printing something else. But it's going to help create the experience because here's why. Confused subscribers churn. Empowered subscribers stay long term. And you'll see if you're a member of Launch Your Box, once you go back and watch my most recent box openings, but you're going to understand why, because there were some boxes I was literally just confused. What is this for? Why does it go with this? What am I supposed to do with this? And we just assume that they'll figure it out. But the more you help them use and consume what's in the box, the more they're going to love it. The more they're going to talk about it and the more they're going to look forward to the next box instead of canceling. So I want you to include a how to use this box element inside your next subscription box. So maybe do a brainstorm session today and think about how you could help them consume the items in the box, how you could help them use the items in the box. It could be like a printed recipe card, a link to a video, a styled photo on how everything works together. Story behind it. But this little small step turns your box from products into an experience.
Okay.
Now, number 3, we want to focus on the experience over the extras. You've kind of been hearing the same thing throughout this Friday Fuel episode, but I saw members doing a lot. Okay. Handwritten notes, tons of freebies, multi-page guides. Highly custom packaging. And while all of that can feel thoughtful, it also comes at a cost, comes at a cost of your time, your energy, and your profit margin. But here's the thing. You don't have to do more. We think adding more adds more value. You just have to do what matters really well. So what matters to your subscribers? Think about that for just a second. What matters to your subscribers? And I want you to really think about what are you doing that's taking time, effort, energy, and your profit margin that doesn't even matter. Yet you keep doing it because you think you need to. You keep doing it because you're just checking off the list. The best boxes I saw weren't the ones that did the most. They were the ones that felt thoughtful. They were the ones that were most cohesive, and they were the ones that were clear on who they were for. So before you add another bonus or a freebie just to fill up space, I want you to ask yourself, is this enhancing the experience or is it just adding more stuff? Let's do a mini audit. Let's do a mini audit of your next box. You can even go back to past boxes and do a mini audit. Is there something in one of your past boxes that is just in there because you felt like you had to include it? Let's audit that and see where we're making the mistakes. When we're looking forward, let's see what it is that we just added just to make it feel like it had more value. Let's take it out because simplicity with intention is powerful. People don't need more stuff in their lives. So if we keep packing our subscription boxes full of more things and more things and more things, it's going to sit around, it's going to collect dust, and your subscriber is going to feel like they're not using the products and therefore they should cancel. We are doing ourselves a disservice. I want you to add more value to your subscription box without burning through your budget or your energy. So here's what you need to do. Tell a story with what you send. Make it make sense for the person opening the box. Help subscribers use your products and really enjoy the box to the fullest. And then I want you to simplify all the extras that you're trying to put in there and focus on the overall experience. Is it color cohesive? Do the things get used together or does it feel random? Because your box isn't just product, it is that experience. And people don't go on raving about the stuff they got. They rave about how something makes them feel. So I want you to really dial this in. I want you to audit some of your past boxes and see where you've made mistakes. And then I want you to look forward with the curation, and it's time to pivot before you place all those orders. We don't need to add more. We just need to make what's already in your box feel more meaningful.
