Live with Lexie - From 40 to 400 subscribers in 1 year

In this live interview, host Sarah Williams chats with Lexi, founder of Crafty Lady Boutique, about her entrepreneurial journey from a niche Etsy shop selling bridal proposal boxes to a thriving subscription‑box business. Lexi recounts her early success as a top‑1% Etsy seller, the abrupt shutdown of her market during COVID, and the painful pivot to a subscription model that initially yielded only one subscriber. She describes how she immersed herself in the Launch Your Box program, implemented lessons on landing pages, ads, TikTok videos, and community building, and steadily grew her subscriber base to 30, then 100, then 500‑plus for her Monogram Bride box, plus additional offerings like a wife‑focused subscription and a t‑shirt club, reaching 650 monthly subscribers. Throughout, Lexi emphasizes perseverance, learning by doing, and the supportive role of the Launch Your Box community. The conversation also includes motivational advice for aspiring creators and a call to join the program.

Hey everybody, I am super duper excited to introduce you to Lexi today. Um, Lexi's been in my world for a little while, um, and, uh, she's seen it all— the ups, the downs, the lows, the highs, the struggles, the challenges, the wins. And we're going to talk about it all today because I think it's important. I don't want you just to see the wins, I want you to see the struggle struggles too and how we bounce back from that. And Lexi is one of the greatest examples of being consistent, staying the course, doing what she needs to do to— and not giving up. And her story is super, super inspiring. Um, Lexi, why don't you tell everybody what you do, what your business is, and what your subscriptions are?
So my name is Lexi. I am in Toledo, Ohio. Um, I started Crafty Lady Boutique in 2018, and actually I got married in 2017, and that was when all the ideas started sparking. So I loved planning my wedding, I was obsessed with it, and when I was going to do my bridesmaid proposals, I couldn't find what I was looking for, um, for that special box. So I actually started an Etsy. Okay, and we did—
let us know in the chat, did— have you started your— have you started on Etsy? Are you on Etsy?
Yeah.
I also started on Etsy as well.
Etsy's a great place to start for sure. Um, so I did the bridesmaid proposal boxes and I put all my eggs in that basket. I was a nurse since 2009 and I was pregnant with my last son. I had a ton of, um, complications while I was pregnant and I was having a really hard time working those long hours along with all my kids' sports and stuff at night shift working. So I, I wanted to try to sell some stuff on Etsy, right? And it took me the whole 9 months while I was pregnant with my last son, but then I ended up quitting my job instead of going back to work on maternity leave. And I was scared. I was really scared.
Um, you were a nurse, you were also doing the Etsy shop on the side. You'd gotten married, you're pregnant, you're like, I'm not going back to being, to being a nurse. I'm gonna see if I can make enough money with my Etsy shop, right?
Yeah.
Okay.
I wanted to stay home with my kids. I knew this was my last baby since I had so many problems with my pregnancy that I wanted to take it all in, and I didn't want to be— I worked third shift. I slept during the day and I went to work at night. It was horrible, like, you know. So yeah, and then in January of 2019 was when it blew up out of control. Everybody was buying my proposal boxes. I was like the first one to do it on Etsy, and I became top 1% in the world.
You became top 1% Etsy seller in the world for your niche, right? Yeah. Okay, and then Dun dun dun, what happens?
So I was killing it for a while, like 2 years almost, and then COVID came around. And for everyone else in the small business world, everyone seemed to be blossoming during 2020. But for me, all the weddings stopped, like instantly, done. We're not doing weddings anymore. We're not allowed to do weddings. We're not even allowed to think about weddings. We're not allowed to do anything. So nobody's proposing to anybody because nobody thinks they can have a wedding. Anyone that is having a wedding is having a super micro wedding that is non-existent for my business, obviously. Um, and it literally shut my business off overnight.
Business died because the industry, when COVID hit, the, the wedding industry completely shut down. And so that's your niche on Etsy was these bridal boxes, these proposal, um, boxes, um, bridesmaid gifts. Yes. And so now you had no business. So what happens then?
Gosh, I was trying everything, like everything under the sun. I was trying to do mom stuff, I was trying to do whatever you wanted. I was come and do it because I didn't care. I needed to. So I, I actually thought about going back to work to be a nurse, which I keep my license active in case I ever need it because, you know, um, but I was like, I am not going back to work to be a nurse. Like, I'm not doing it. I love being a nurse, don't get me wrong, but it was just the hours and my kids are in travel sports and all the things. Like, I can't do it, you know? Yeah. So it was really hard, but I finally found you. Okay, you find Launch Your Box, and I was like, I had thought about doing a bridal subscription box because there was plenty of— there's a handful of bridal subscription boxes out there, but nothing like what I wanted to do. I wanted to personalize it. I wanted to make it super fun. I have been personalizing boxes for years at this point. Like, I know how to personalize a box and make it super cute and fun, and none of these other boxes were doing that. I would always just say bride on everything, or Mrs., or something like that, and I'm like I can do better than that. So I have thought about it.
You launched a subscription box?
Well, I joined in October of '21. Okay. And then I launched in January of '22, and that was terrible. Do you want to know how many subscribers I got?
I do want to know how many subscribers you got. You got 1 subscriber. Shut up. I did not know that.
Yes, I got 1. Okay.
So how are you feeling? You, you, you're excited. You're getting ready to launch. You're doing all the things you get.
I thought I was going to get like 50 subscribers like that. Like no problem. Yeah. No.
So how'd you feel in that moment?
I felt defeated, but I also knew that I didn't do everything that I was supposed to do. So.
Okay. Okay. So you recognized there was room for improvement.
Yeah. So for the last, what, year and a half or 2 years almost at this point, I had been targeting to moms and everybody else, you know, and not the brides.
So then you weren't— you weren't— your following wasn't the right person, right?
And I knew I still wanted to be in the bridal industry. I just had to wait for it to come back, I guess. I don't know, you know.
So you had one subscriber. Um, what do we do next?
So I kept trying to just keep going and I was following all of your classes. First off, I took every single course. That was the first thing I did. I came to every single live. I took every single course, and I didn't just watch them. I implemented as I was doing it. So I would watch the thing, do the thing, watch the thing, do the thing. So, and I know you know that.
I do know that, yes.
Oh, good morning everybody.
So yeah, so now we're launching, we're getting ready to launch again. Tell me when this launches.
So that was in— let's see, honestly, I don't think I really launched it again until January of '23. So that was a whole year goes by.
You launched again, you had how many?
30.
Okay, so in that year you went from 1 to 30. Hey, that's pretty good.
But I learned a lot. That was my whole thing this whole time was just learning everything, implementing everything that I learned. Sarah, I did not have anything set up on my website for all of this. I didn't have any of like recharge. I didn't know anything about recharging subscriptions. I didn't know anything about upsells and all the things and landing pages. I've never even heard of a landing page ever.
Okay. You're giving people in the comments over here in the group hope right now because they're like, I know nothing either. If Lexi can do this, I can do this. If Lexi got one subscriber, I can do this. Because here's what happens. You get to 100 subscribers at one point.
That was in September of '23. So I went from 30 to 100 and, you know, 9 months.
And then it comes back down.
No, it didn't go back down.
No, you— okay, so I'm sorry, '23. I was thinking 2022. So this time last year you had 30 at the beginning of the year, you got that up to about 40 by the summer, and then you had launched again and you got to 100. But this time last year you had about 40 subscribers. And I remember, and I tell the story to a lot of people, that, you know, they, they, um, a lot of people will say, Sarah, I've done everything, I've done everything, and it's just not working. And I'll go, when someone says that in the group, I will go look at what they've done. Because 99% of the time they have not done everything. Okay. And so I just want to see what they're doing to see how I can coach them. So Lexi runs in the groups like, I've done everything, I'm not growing, I've had to give up my warehouse, I got to move production back home. I don't know. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. And I'm like, okay, let me go see what Lexi's doing wrong, right? So I go find her page. I look at her Facebook page, I look at her website, I'm looking at all the things and I'm sitting there so confused because usually in the first 30 seconds I can pinpoint what somebody is or isn't doing and I can come back and I can comment and say, well, you haven't posted in 4 days, there's zero engagement. Like I can tell what they have or haven't done. I go look at Lexi's pages and I'm like, this girl is, is doing everything. She is doing everything that I've asked her to do on social media, on her website, like every single thing. And she was right. I have done everything. And I remember telling you, just stay the course. You are doing everything right. Just keep being consistent. And tell me how you were feeling in that moment.
I think you were actually stumped too.
Yeah, I was. I was so—
Holy crap, what's going on?
You're doing everything right. I don't know what's wrong. You're doing everything right. And so you're like, okay, that probably made you feel good. Like, okay, I am doing everything right. I'm doing what Sarah's told me to do. She doesn't think I'm doing anything wrong. I couldn't figure out what the miss was. And you just said, okay, I'm gonna continue. I'm gonna keep doing what I know how to do. Talk to me about that. How did that feel in that moment?
So I finally built up like a good community, and that is the most important part. I cannot stress that enough. Like, if you don't have that community of people, like, you really don't have, uh, anyone to sell to, you know. And I really didn't have that community, um, but I had to rebuild it. So I did. I rebuilt the community, and it's taken me a long time, but I've done it all organically up until I started running some ads. But they love me too, so they're still there. They're— so anyone can run ads, Sarah, right?
Yeah.
But when you go look at my post today, you will see comments upon comments upon likes. And go look at the other bridal subscription boxes or any business out there, really, because they don't engage with their community and they don't make this like bond with them. You know, you have to have that.
So you bit— you got super consistent. You kept going. You were working on more short videos. You were getting on TikTok. You were doing all the things. And tell everybody where we're at right now today. So 40 last year at this time. Where are we at one year later?
500 for my bridal subscription box only. I still have more subscribers than that too. So we're at 500. So I'm I'm throwing a party for that yet. I need to throw a party.
What are we doing? You have 500 just in, in this, in this one?
Yep. And then everybody loved that box. Everybody loved that box.
And we've got a spoiler alert: we're about to get the boyfriend to come unbox this.
I cannot wait. If you saw the live the other day Sarah unboxing this. This is gonna be like—
yes. So this Monogram Bride has 500 subscribers. And then tell me what else you launched, because we talked a little bit about this in the chat, but I didn't tell them during the box, um, during the box openings that, um, they were like, well do you have to keep finding a new customer? Because you're only a bride for so long, right? What did you launch next?
So last September— was it September or August? I think it was September, right? When I hit my 100, I was like, oh girl, you got this, we're going big now. So I had a lot of brides dropping out. Well, actually, they stayed in the bridal subscription even after they were married because they didn't want to leave the subscription. That was the big thing. And then they're like, girl, you need to come out with a wife thing. So I was like, okay, let me figure it out. But guys, I am a solo show here, like, I can only do so much. So I did an Item of the Month Club for the wives, and we have 125 subscribers in there right now.
So this is the wifey subscription, right?
Yes, the Monogrammed Wife.
Okay.
And I haven't put as much energy into that one, like, I need staff and like all the things. So there's a big transition happening.
Okay.
Soon, hopefully, um, to get a, you know, a new place. So that was another thing too. I lost my business last year right around this time, and I had to bring everything back home. And so this is my house. I do everything here. And I, I tried to have like a couple people in and out, and so the— nobody in the house.
Wait a minute, you're not giving me accurate numbers here because you went from 40 subscribers to 625 subscribers.
Well, um, and I have 30 in the t-shirt club, so I just want—
you have 650 subscribers. Yeah, let's get it real. You went from 40 monthly subscribers to 650 subscribers in the last calendar year. I want to point out a couple things. One, people keep saying the economy is bad, people are not buying. Not true. Lexi's proving it right now. Nobody needs a bridal box in their life. Nobody needs this. Just like the same, my box, nobody needs it. People want it. People are still buying what they want. And if you are putting it in front of them enough to get visible like Lexi has done over and over and over again consistently, she didn't give up when she had to move out of her warehouse because she couldn't afford it anymore. She didn't give up when she got 1 subscriber. That's tenacity right there. For her to get 1 subscriber and not give up. And then a year later, she still had 30 subscribers. Like, it— like, she's scratching for an entire year, clawing her way to get those 30 subscribers. She didn't give up. She didn't give up. She kept going. Even at 30 subscribers, she kept going. And she— I remember just the tears when you and I talked after you had to move home. And, um, just like I don't know if I can do this. I don't know if I have enough money to buy groceries this week. I don't know, but I can't give up on this. I don't want to go back to work. I don't want to go back to the old life. I want this life and I am not about to give up on it. You were just scratching your way through it and you didn't give up. You kept showing up. Lexi shows up every single week in our Community to my live trainings. She implements. She told you that she was learning and implementing, learning and implementing. She was implementing everything as she was going, and she just didn't give up on herself. And I think it is so important for us to understand we are not going to win at everything. We are not going to win at everything. We are going to have failures, and you just have to accept that right now. Like, whatever we are about to do, we are probably going to fail at something. It's okay. We figured out, we learned from it, and we keep going the same way Lexi did. And she is sitting here one year later with 650 monthly subscribers. Lexi, how did that change your life?
Oh my gosh, you have no idea. Like, I feel like I can finally breathe. It took me years to get to this point. Like, this was not an overnight thing. This was years of tears, of of crying, of pushing, of staying up at night. I mean, oh God, but it's so worth it. It is so worth it. And I feel like if you follow Sarah's training, you will get there 10 times faster than if you try to do it alone. One thing that Sarah's taught me that I still remember in my brain all the time: you don't know what you don't know. And that is so true. Like, you really do not know what you don't know. I'd never heard of a landing page. I thought you just put a product on the website and you just send them to the product. No, that is so wrong. Don't do that. We've got things to— she can help you with to get you a beautiful landing page, beautiful product page, and it converts a lot better. Actually, do you want to see my conversion increase? Can I show them that? Is there a way to like—
you just tell them what it is.
Okay, let me go over here. So I increased my conversion rate in the last 365 days, um, 124%.
Conversion rate. Her conversion rate. So the traffic— that means the traffic that's coming to her website is converting over 100% more than it used to. That means she's finding the right person because when they get to her page, they are buying. $120 more than they used to. Okay, so she's found the right person, she stayed super consistent. You told me something before we went live about paying for a Launch Box, and I just want— I want to share that with them.
I couldn't afford— at this time last year, swear on my life, I couldn't even afford to go buy groceries. I would be buying like bread and milk and like the basics. Um, because I mean, I was in a bad spot when I lost my shop. I waited till the very last minute to do that, but I kept my Launch Your Box membership, and it's like $57 a month, I think. Is that right, Sarah?
Yes.
And so that's a really hard thing to do when you have no money, but I knew that this was gold. Like, that $57 a month was going to be more beneficial to me in the long run, and that is why I stayed. Stephanie said she already joined and she paid for the whole year. So very smart. Crazy. It's—
I— did you see how many people I added to the world?
It is so crazy.
And you know what, Stephanie paid for the year, but I was looking last night, so many of you have joined for the full year, and that tells me you're all in, you're ready to do this. And, and it's going to take some of you longer than others. Like Lexi, she didn't have instant success But what she didn't give up on was herself and her ability to know that she could do this. She just had to figure it out. And so I'm so excited for you.
I'm gonna go, I'm gonna go get the boy.
Okay. Um, if you didn't watch the box openings, Lexi sent me this. Lexi sent me this box and it is monogrammed as if I'm the bride. And it took me way— it it embarrassed me. He has no idea. He's— we've been together for 10 months. He's the most amazing man in my life. But, um, I'm gonna, um, we're gonna let him unbox this live just to get his reaction. Okay, I'm gonna go get him. I'll be right back.
So if you guys were at the live, let us know in the chat. I've seen the box opening.
They're ready for you. I prepped them. Oh yeah, they're ready for you. Here, you get to sit in my chair.
No.
Yeah, you sit right here. I'm gonna sit next to you. We got this.
All right.
Do you remember Lexi? Lexi, she said she met you at, um, how you doing, at Seb Summit.
I almost fell on the escalator.
What were you doing?
I don't know. I swear I wasn't drunk. I really wasn't.
Do you remember that, Sarah?
I was all wobbling on the escalator.
No, I don't remember that.
Okay, okay.
This is a very special box that Lexi made for me.
Okay.
And I opened it on Thursday during box openings. You didn't watch that, did you?
I didn't see it.
No, I knew you were busy, so, um, it threw me off a little bit. So I thought it would be fun, and everybody else thought it would be fun too if, um, we had you open it.
So why— oh, so you're bringing me here to put me on live?
Yeah.
So it's your fault, huh, Lexi?
It is.
Lexi's like, please do this. This is really for Lexi because this girl deserves anything she wants because she started with 1 subscriber.
Absolutely.
She got to 40 this time last year. 40 subscribers after, like, take it— it took her like a year and a half to get there, to get to 30.
Okay.
But today, babe, she has 650 subscribers. Wow. One year later.
Way to go, Nixie.
Yeah, thank you.
Yeah, that's great.
Okay, so here's what her box is. So it's called the Monogram Bride, and so she makes— yeah, you're about to see what I saw. I didn't know this either, um, but she makes subscription boxes for people that are about to get married. And so when she sent it to me, no big deal, she has it personalized. But when I opened it live on camera, this is what I saw.
Oh, okay.
I was like, oh, oh, I, I just closed it. That's why I wondered if you had watched the box. I didn't see it. I didn't see it. I was Okay, and then wait, so there's more. So we're gonna do an unboxing for anybody that didn't, didn't see it, but she has her— this is called Red, White, and I Do box. So here's what she's got in here. She's got these little like can koozies, Red, White, and I Do, and Red, White, and I Do Too. So his and hers, you know, Red, White, and I Do. Um, Joanna said the fear of on his face.
You have to understand, this is new. First time on live.
I know, I know. I'm so sorry. Please forgive me.
On any platform, like, live is— it's just not my thing. And then Miss Lexi doing a wonderful job, but y'all bring me here to do this to me? Like, come on, man. It's, it's like—
you forgive me?
I do. Babe, come on.
I do too. Okay, wait, there's more, there's more. Then there's this cute little headband because this is, um, Fourth of July themed. So she has this cute little, um, patriotic headband. And look how cute these earrings are. But look at this shirt. I almost just wore it yesterday when you got here. Boy, I feel it. Look at this shirt. If y'all don't know, Whitley is his last name. It's not mine.
So Lexi, that's what we're doing.
That's what we're doing.
Sarah's team is the one that set her up to this.
Okay, you know who did this to me? Allison from Kenya. She set me up. I had no idea this was happening. I didn't do this. And the back says red, white, and I do. I'll wear it on 4th of July for him.
It's nice and very creative.
Yes.
And I think you're doing a wonderful job. She brought me here live.
So if you were a bride, you would really love it, right?
Yeah. Lauren says no pressure. Dawn says he's a good sport. Monica says I wouldn't even have to change my initials. Oh, okay. So I'm getting to see the people talking. Yeah, this is— so this is the people right here in the group. This is the people on YouTube or the public page. Um, so April says, Sarah, I'm loving all of this. So, okay, enough with this. I'm sorry.
No, you're not.
I love you.
Yeah, I love you too.
Okay, um, tell them before we go. Okay, tell them why they should come join Lunchbox.
Me personally, and I'm not being biased, I'm just being honest and upfront, I feel like It's a life-changing opportunity. I mean, the foundation has been set. It's a wonderful community. Everybody's, you know, planning, executing, and lives are being changed. I mean, and you're able to, you know, buy your time back, have freedom, you know, live the life that you desire to live. Like, why not? I mean, just be a dreamer, you know, move forward. Do— nobody's going to do it for you, but I promise you, if you do the work it's worth it, you know. And so, I mean, look at all of the people that's here. It's stories from A to Z, you know. It's up to you what you want to do, you know.
So what advice would you give them when they feel like maybe it's too hard or they're too scared or they're not— maybe they don't feel smart enough or ready enough or what? They have all those internal struggles.
Um, I feel like you just do it anyway. You gotta, you gotta suppress, you gotta press past those emotions, those feelings. I mean, you're gonna— we emotional people, you're gonna feel emotional things every day. But when you feel anger, what do you do? You don't go kick your boss's window out. You just— I mean, you don't. You just suppress it and, and you overcome it and let it work for your good. Let your pain, you know, birth that passion in you because it's worth it. Life is, life is challenging. I ain't gonna say hard, it's challenging for everybody.
What do you always say? Life be lifin'.
Life be lifin'.
Life be lifin'.
But you know, you just keep, keep going. Do it anyway. Do it when you're afraid. Do it. Just do it. You know, what do you have to lose? But look at what you got to gain. So hey, go get it. It's out there for everybody.
Yeah.
And we going to get it. We're born to win. That's what we do.
Yeah.
So this is your official invitation from Kalidas and I to come join us in Launch Your Box. Lexi's there every day in the community sharing her wins, sharing, supporting other people. What I also love about Lexi is that when someone's struggling, she can recognize how they feel and she's instantly in the chat supporting them. And And that's what our community is about. And I think the new people that have already gotten into the group already feel supported and welcomed. And we're ready. We're ready. I mean, there's a couple of things that are about to happen this weekend. Number one, we're closing the cart for new members on Tuesday morning. So if you're not in by Wednesday night or not Wednesday night, Monday night, we're closing the doors. We're also increasing the price because we know the value of what we do inside Launch Your Box. We've talked about several things.
Sarah says You need a Positivity, Positivity subscription box.
Oh yeah.
Yeah. He's working on it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
We work.
Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Come join us. We'll see you soon. Lexi, I'm so proud of you. Everything that you've accomplished. Keep going.
