Now let's jump into today's topic. So there's all these things that I need you to know before starting your subscription box business. So number one, I need you to understand that this is a long-term business and not a one-time project. Before you start, it's important to understand that this isn't one and done. It's an ongoing business. You're You're not just creating one box, you're creating systems, routines, and a monthly experience for your subscribers. When you start with that mindset, you're better making decisions from the beginning, and you avoid burnout later because you know what's to come. Now, number 2, this is where many people get stuck before they even begin. And you don't need a perfect website. You don't need a perfect website. You don't need custom packaging, and you don't even need a fully polished brand to start your subscription box business. Where people lack clarity is that they feel like they need everything perfect to get started, and that's false. All you need is clarity. You need clear messaging, you need clear expectations of what this is going to take for you, and a clear path. Perfection delays progress. Clarity builds momentum. So don't let you tell yourself that everything has to be perfect to get started. Get started messy, and improve it as you go. Now, number 3, I want you to build interest before you start spending your money. So before you start buying inventory, you need to know that people are interested. I want you to talk about your idea early. Share the concept that you have, your box concept, on social media. Let people follow along as you build this business. Where I see the mistake is that people wait till they're ready or they have everything together and then they start. We need to build interest before we ever never spend money. I want you to start an email waitlist of people who are curious and excited, and this reduces your financial risks and it gives you confidence to spend the money when you move forward. Audience first, inventory second. Okay, number 4: pricing matters more than you think. It does. Pricing isn't just a number, but it determines whether your business is sustainable. A common mistake that new subscription box owners make is underpricing because they're afraid no one will buy. So when you price out of fear, you're making a big mistake in your business. Cheap pricing leads to stress, really tight margins, cash flow issues, and burnout. So before you start your subscription box business, I want you to understand your costs, and I want you to aim for healthy margins. We gotta stop pricing using profit margins under 40% because that's not sustainable. We need to start at 40%, and we need to continue to grow that as we build so that your business can grow and support you long term. Now, number 5, planning ahead changes everything. Subscription boxes work best when you take the time to plan. When you plan even 3 to 6 months in advance, everything feels lighter and easier. You're more confident, you make better decisions, and you're not scrambling every single month. This includes like planning your themes, planning your timelines, planning your product, planning the overall experience, all of that in, in advance. And if you want help with this step, I've got a free workshop called the 6 in 60 Workshop where I help you map out 6 months of box ideas in just an hour. So You can find that at 6in60workshop.com completely free. Now, number 6, your first box sets the expectation. So before you start, you need to understand that that very first box you send out sets the standard. So if you overdo it because you want to overdeliver in a way that's not sustainable, you're going to create expectations that are hard to maintain and you have to keep that pricing in mind. Remember what we just talked about, that profit margin? You can't way overdeliver on your first box because you're setting an expectation. So instead, I want you to focus on quality, intention, and clear experience, not quantity. What you do in the beginning becomes the expectation moving forward. Number 7, visibility is part of starting, not something you do later. Many new subscription box owners think marketing comes after they've spent time building everything, but visibility is part of starting. You've got to talk about your idea. You got to show behind the scenes. You got to share your why. All of that is the journey of your subscription box, and it builds momentum. And what you need to do is take them along that journey with you from the starting of the idea to picking out a logo to finding your first products. Like, you've got to start getting visible. Confidence comes from showing up. You can't wait until you're ready to launch your subscription box to start showing up. Confidence comes by repetition. Momentum comes from consistency. If people don't know about your box, they can't subscribe. Now, starting a subscription box business is exciting. and when you do it with the right expectations and a clear plan, it becomes sustainable instead of stressful. You don't need to do everything at once. You just need the right foundation.
