In this episode of the Launch Your Box podcast, host Sarah Williams delivers a motivational pep‑talk aimed at subscription‑box founders—especially women entrepreneurs—who feel stuck in growth. She opens with striking statistics: only 5 % of all entrepreneurs ever reach $1 million in revenue, and just 1.9 % of women‑owned businesses achieve that milestone. Drawing on a Forbes article that identifies four primary reasons entrepreneurs fall short, Sarah walks listeners through each barrier—lack of focus, lack of strategy, lack of financial discipline, and lack of consistency—explaining how each manifests in a subscription‑box business. She ties each obstacle to concrete, observable behaviors (e.g., chasing shiny‑object tactics, not using the Launch Your Box roadmap, ignoring profit‑margin and churn metrics, and abandoning marketing when results dip). Sarah reframes the “inconsistency” excuse, pointing out that listeners are already consistent in many daily tasks, and urges them to transfer that reliability to their business actions. The episode concludes with a reflective exercise: identify the dominant barrier, write it down, and commit to one specific micro‑action every day for the next seven days to break the cycle of excuses and build “million‑dollar momentum.”

Welcome back to the Launch Your Box podcast. Um, today we're talking about why your subscription box business isn't growing the way you want it to grow, and this might be the mindset reset that you need. So a few months ago, I attended a conference where Tony Robbins shared a stat that has just stuck with me, and I think it's really important to talk about. It really just stopped me in my tracks. He said only 5% of entrepreneurs ever hit $1 million in revenue, and he didn't say $1 million in a year, just $1 million, period. But here's what hit even harder. I read a Forbes article that says only 1.9% of women-owned businesses make it to that mark, make it to that million-dollar mark. And that really hit me. And I've been in that 1.9% for years, and I didn't even realize how rare that was. And it got me thinking, why? Why do so few women entrepreneurs make it there? And so I did some digging. And according to that particular Forbes article, there are 4 major reasons that entrepreneurs don't hit their big goals. So I want to talk through them today because recognizing which one applies to you is the first step in changing it. So the first one they mentioned was lack of focus. You're doing too much. You're chasing too many ideas. You're switching strategies constantly. You're trying every new trick you see on Instagram or TikTok, but your business doesn't need 17 directions. It needs one. And if you really get honest with yourself and ask yourself, what right now is distracting me from building my subscription box business? It might be something that doesn't even belong in your life or on your schedule. Number 2, the lack of strategy. And I want you to think about this. I want you to like really soak this in and think about this. You might feel stuck because you don't know what to do next. But here's the deal. If you're inside Launch Your Box, you literally have the roadmap of strategy. I built it based on what worked in my own business, and it's now working for hundreds or thousands of other people. But if you're not opening up that map and actually using that roadmap, then you don't have a strategy problem. It's a follow-through problem. If you're one of my members, you have the strategy, but I can't make you implement it. I can't make you use that strategy. So you might be feeling stuck because you're just wandering around trying to figure out what it is you're supposed to do next. Go use the map. Number 3 was lack of financial discipline. So I want you to think about it and just be, be real candid with yourself. This is for you, not for me. You don't have to answer to anybody on any of these things except yourself. Lack of financial discipline. Are you overspending? Are you underpricing yourself? You don't understand how much I see of that. Are you tracking your profit margin? Do you know your churn rate? Do you know your customer lifetime value? If you don't know these things, you're really running your business in the dark. And I'm going to be honest with you that I did this for a lot of years. A lot of us come into these businesses and I say us like women as kind of a side hustle, something we did for fun. Something we just started, and we really didn't think about it in a business mindset with financial discipline. And so when you start to grow, you're just trying to keep up and you're not really looking at the financial aspect of your business. And you're not broke because your idea isn't good. You might be lacking funds because your numbers aren't looked at. Your numbers aren't top of mind. So I want you to think about that too. Now, number 4, lack of consistency. And this is the one that really gets most people. You start strong, you're excited, and then as things aren't working the way you want it, you kind of disappear. They kind of disappear when things get hard. You're consistent for a few weeks, maybe a month, and then you're like, why am I doing this? No one's engaging, no one's showing up. So you just decide to ghost your audience for the next month and then Boom, you're right back where you started. I want to talk about consistency because I know you can be consistent because you already are. You're already consistent, just not in your business. You probably tell yourself, I'm not good at being consistent, but I want to prove you wrong with your own life. These are some things you're consistent at. You're consistent at going to the grocery store, even if you hate it. You're consistent about mowing the yard, going to work, picking up the kids. Why? Because there's consequences if you don't do that. But guess what? There's consequences for not showing up in your business as well. It's called no visibility. It's called no sales. It's called no traction, no momentum. So we're choosing what we want now over what we want most. And that has to change. So I want you to think about these things and really understand where you fall into the barriers that are holding you back. Are you lacking focus? You know, it's like, I don't want to clean the house, so I find everything else to do besides clean the house, right? We do that in our business. When things feel hard, we do everything else in our life but work on our business. It could be binge watching Netflix. It could be doing other things that don't matter. It could be trying to find the next shiny object because you don't want to do the hard thing in your business. What is distracting you from building your business right now? Number 2, it's lack of strategy. We're not following any map. We're just walking around aimlessly and we have no direction on what we're doing. But if you're inside Launch Your Box, you literally have the map. Let's pull it out and let's get to work. Number 3, financial discipline. We don't look at it because we feel overwhelmed by it. I want you to start tracking your profit margin. I want you to know your retention and your churn rates, and I want you to know how long your customer is staying in your subscription box. You can't keep running your business in the dark. And let's get consistent because we can be consistent in a lot of things that we don't like. I'm consistently doing laundry and it's not my favorite thing. I'm consistently doing the grocery pickup because, you know what, if I don't, I don't have food to eat. If you aren't consistent in your business, you won't have a business. So I want you to reflect and pause right now, and I want you to ask yourself truly, and this is just for you, what is distracting me from growing my business right now? Write it down because we have to be aware of it so we can stop it. Which one of those 4 barriers is holding you back from growing your business right now? Which one? Lack of focus, lack of strategy, lack of financial discipline, or lack of consistency? Which one? And they might all be— it might be all 4 things, and that's why you feel stuck. Which one is the biggest? And then I want you to ask yourself, what is one thing that I can do every day for the next 7 days to show up differently? What is one thing that I've had on my mind, but I just, for whatever reason, I'm not making it happen? One thing in the next 7 days. We can all do this no matter what stage we're at. And that's it. That's how you shift. You name the real issue and you stop blaming your schedule or the economy or my kids have a lot going on or whatever the case may be. You stop giving excuses of why you can't do this and you do one thing every day, no matter what, because you're not inconsistent. You're just choosing to be consistent in other things. And that changes now. Let's stop letting mindset hold us back from our million-dollar momentum. You've got this. Let's go.
