Where Will You Be in 6 Months?

Sarah Williams walks through a six-month planning framework that combines personal and business goals. She breaks the year into chunks, then into 90-day action plans, with specific pre-launch tasks like audience building and ad graphics. The core idea: block your calendar now so daily work compounds toward where you want to be by August 26.

Good morning, everybody. Happy Monday. Today we're going to talk about something that I really want you to think about in your personal life and your business life, and that is, where will you be in 6 months? Have you set goals for the next 6 months? Where will you be personally in 6 months? Where will you be business-wise in 6 months? Have you thought about 6 months down the road and what that looks like for you? That's what we're going to talk about today, because what you do now will set yourself up to be successful over the next 6 months. So if you're joining me this morning, let me know in the chat. I would love to say hi to all of you. Um, you're watching me on YouTube and Facebook right now. Let me come to the chat and say hi. We're going to talk about that. So I'm, I am, you can see I'm not in my office. I'm in Nashville. We had a long girls weekend this weekend. So I'm with some of my business buddies. We've been friends for 6 years now and we make it a point to travel together twice a year. And we are all busy. We all have 6 and 7 figure businesses. We all have kids. We all have our lives that are very, very busy. But one thing that's really important to us is making time for each other. And so every, every February and every August, we take some time just to spend with each other. And I want you to really think about that as we talk through what the next 6 months looks like for you. I want you to think about who in your life do you need to spend time with? Who fills your cup up? You know, and that can be our family. And a lot of times it is our family, but it can also be people that are very close to us, like our friends that feel like family. I'm going to come to the chat and say hi, and then we're going to jump into today's conversation. Hi, Susie. Good to see you. Hey, Andrea. Good morning, everybody. Hi, Joan. Hi, Beth. Hey, Sarah. Good morning, April. Good morning, Lisa. Good morning, Denise. Good morning, Tracy. Good morning, Stephanie. Good morning, everybody. It's good to see you guys here. Hey, Amy. Hey, Amy. Hey, Sandy. Good morning. Hi, Tammy. Hi, Tara. Good morning, Ashley. Okay, let's jump in because I want you to think about 6 months from now. 6 months from now. What is today? The 26th. So March, April, May, June, July, August. Okay, so August 26th. If you think about between now and August 26th, what do you want to see different? What's going to happen over the next 6 months between now and August? Here's— and here's what's going to happen. I'm going to tell you. So for some of you, you're going to sit here on August 26th, you're going to sit here 6 months from now and you're going to be in the exact same spot. You could be overthinking what you want to do for your business. You could be putting off that launch of your first subscription box. You could be, um, kind of spinning your wheels and taking a lot of time to do anything, right? So some of you— and I know you don't want it to be you— but the reality is that probably half of you watching me right now will be in the exact same spot in 6 months that you are right now. And it's not because you want to be, and it's not because you're complacent, and it's not because you're content. It's because you are afraid to take steps forward, and you don't know what the goal is to be at in 6 months, so you can't take steps forward, right? So let's talk about that. Now, some of you will be in a completely different spot in your business in 6 months. Some of you will have maybe launched your subscription box for the first time. Some of you will have relaunched your subscription box and grown. Some of you will have hired your first hire or another hire. Some of you will add additional products to your business. Some of you will maybe even add a different revenue stream to your business in the next 6 months. But the difference between people that will be in the exact same spot and the people that will be at a completely different spot is what we plan to do in the next 6 months. And that's what we don't realize. We get so caught up in the day-to-day and we're just going through the motions and we're just, I've gotta fulfill orders, I've gotta do social media, I've gotta send an email campaign, I've gotta do this. And we're so caught up in the day-to-day, we are not planning where we wanna be in the next 6 months. And I don't want you to overthink this, and I don't want you to have some huge, big, audacious goal for the next 6 months. But have you even set goals for the next 6 months? That's the first thing. What is it that I want to do by the time 6 months rolls around in my business? Where do I want to be? And I want you to be really realistic with yourself because we're just kind of fumbling through the motions and we haven't set goals for ourselves. Where do I want to be? I want you to tell me in the chat. 6 months from now in my business, I want to have done what? Um, and if you can't answer that for me, that's okay. That just means I need you to take some time today to reflect on that, to really think about where you want to be in your business in the next 6 months. And then we've got to break that down on how do we get there. Because we can't wait until August 1st to decide that I got to start working on my goal because 6 months is here and I haven't done anything for it. And that's where a lot of us live. A lot of us are, are dreamers, right? We're dreaming about where we want to be in 6 months, but we're not being realistic on what it's going to take to get there. And that's what we need to do today. We need to be realistic about what we want to do. I also want you to think about your personal life. Business is personal. Our personal life affects our business. Okay, so when you think about the next 6 months, what is it you want to do for yourself? What is it that you want to do for your family? What is it that you want to do personally outside of the business? Sometimes in the beginning of our businesses, and I would say I'm really guilty of this too, is that all we're doing is thinking about the business. How can I get here? What can I sacrifice? What can I do? How, how much more can I work? How can I build this? And that's the hustle. That's the grind. That's the building that business, because it takes so much in the beginning to get you to that hump. But we don't actually think about what are we giving up personally to get there. And sometimes we give up too much. Sometimes it affects relationships. Sometimes it affects our mental health. Sometimes we get in this rat race of putting the business first all the time, and we forget that we are human. So I want you to think about what you want to do for yourself in the next 6 months. Is there a trip that you want to go on? Is there a time— is there something you want to purchase for yourself or your family? Is there, is there a goal personally that you want for yourself in 6 months? Because they go hand in hand. Business is personal. What happens in your personal life affects the business. They're intertwined. And I want you to think about that too. It's just like this girls trip. If I would have looked at my calendar this month and said, and the girls would say, hey, can you come to Nashville for 4 days? And I'd be like, no, no, I got too much going on. I can't do that. But because we planned this 6 months ago, I knew whatever is going on in February, I'm going on a girls trip for 4 days. That's personal to me. That fills my cup. Sitting around this house with these women, talking about our family, talking about our relationships, talking about our businesses. Laughing until we cry. You have no idea the fun that we have had. And now today we're going to talk business like it fills all of those cups that we have, all those buckets, all those empty compartments that we drain out every single day because we're moms, we're wives, we're business owners, we're caregivers. We're just giving, giving, giving, and we never come back and refill our own cup. And that's how we get burnout. All right. So here's how— what this looks like for you. Let's get actionable. I'd like to give you some really actionable things. Last month, I brought my team out to Las Vegas for a few days. I was hosting my mastermind out in Las Vegas. And for the last couple of years, we've done a 2020— we've done a whole yearly planning session. And having the team in person together to make decisions and plan out our year is really, really important. And so when you think about your goals, you might feel overwhelmed, like, what does this look like? So let's, let's break it down. I'm going to help you break it down. If you're a note taker, I want you to write notes so that you can go back and reflect on this. But I want you to sit down and I want you to look at your one-year calendar. And I want you to plan the big rocks for the year. And when I say big rocks, the first thing that goes on your calendar is your vacations. And even if you don't have vacations planned, I want you to plan a week. You can plan them later, but you need to block out that week. You need to block out the 2 weeks, the 3 weeks, however many vacations that you want to do, trips. All of those things are— those are your big rocks. We've got to build our business around our life. We're not letting the business take over our life. OK, and that was something hard for me to learn. So big rocks. What am I going to do personally this year? I want to go on vacation this summer. I've got a family reunion I'm going on with my kids. I want to take a cruise to the Bahamas at Christmas. Those are my vacation big rocks. Okay, those have got to get on the calendar first because I don't want to fill my whole year with projects and tasks before my vacations get put on there. Put those on there. Then I want you to look at that year and I want you to plan your launches. I want you to plan your product launches, your subscription launches, those big projects that you've been thinking about for maybe the last year. Get them on the calendar this year. We do this, we think, oh, I'm going to do this, I'm going to launch this, I'm going to create this. And then we let the day to day take over our life and we never get that product launch. We never get the subscription launch. We never do the thing that we want to do because we let the day to day dictate our calendar. But we set that calendar. So what are those big things for me? It's the Monogram Box launch. I'm going to do that twice this year. So I've got them on the calendar. It's my teacher subscription launch. I do that once a year and I do that in July. Get that on the calendar. Then I have coaching week and this and the coaching launch that's got to go on the calendar. Speaking events that I am speaking at on stages, those have to be on the calendar because it requires travel. So this is the big rocks for my businesses. I've got to plan those launches. I've got to plan my speaking events and all, and I got to put them on the calendar. And I got to make sure, because I have two businesses, that things aren't crammed all in the same quadrant of that calendar. I need them spaced out effectively so I'm not a crazy person. We do this to ourselves too. We put so much on the calendar, it's not physically possible. So that's the big rocks for the business, the launches, the speaking, and the travel. That's the big rocks for me. So I want you to look at your year. When am I going to launch my subscription box? When am I going to relaunch the subscription box? When— if I'm going to build something new, when is this going to be on my calendar? Okay, then I want you to take 6-month chunks at a time. Okay, in the next 6 months, I have 2 launches on my calendar, one for my retail business and one for my coaching business. What are the things that I have to do to plan for these launches? So this is the next layer of planning. I can't launch without audience building. What am I going to do to build my audience from now until my launches? That might mean a new freebie opt-in, it might mean a new SLO, it might mean a new, um, a, you know, small dollar offer to get people in. It might mean a webinar. It might mean a free gift. What are the offers and the promotions and the audience building that I'm going to do leading up to this big launch? Because this is where we also get in trouble. We put these big rocks on our calendar and we do nothing to prepare for them. And then we get there and we're disappointed. Because we've not taken that runway to build up to our launches. And so if I know that I'm launching in April for my monogram box, what do I need to be doing now to have the most successful launch? Okay, that's easy. I need to be list building. So I've got a new freebie list builder. I need to be bringing people in through an SLO. That's a a self-liquidating offer. So that's like a really great price product that people can have a purchase, one-time purchase. I've got SLOs running. I'm working on a new free opt-in right now. We're working on a quiz. So these are my audience building, my list building up until that launch. Then when I think about the launch, what are the assets I need for that launch? I'm going to need ad graphics. I'm going to need emails. I'm going to need social media posts. So right now we're working on photos, for all of those things, even though it's, it's February and that's not happening until April. I need to do a photo shoot around the warehouse so that my ads, my graphics person can make new ads. So we need to knock that out so they can start working on that. I need to have copy written. So we need to have emails and social media posts ready to go. I need to have graphics made. I need to have my early bird bonus figured out so that I can launch. All of these things take planning. And if we don't plan for them, that launch in April is not going to be successful, right? So that's what I want you to think about. I want you to plan out your year. If you've not planned out 2024, it's time, y'all. We're 2 months in. It's about to be March. If you haven't taken the time to plan out your year, you're in the day-to-day too much. You need to stop, block it on your calendar this week, and sit down with your calendar and map out your entire year. Big rocks for your personal life, big rocks for your business. Then you need to take those big rocks and chunk them into 6 months. What are we doing? You can even chunk those down into 90 days. Over the next 90 days, What do I need to be working on so that I have everything ready for my first big rock? That could be vacation. You have a vacation in your next 6 months. Have you booked it? Do you have flights? Have you planned the location? Like, that takes planning. And if you don't plan that vacation, guess what? You're not going to go. You're going to tell yourself you're too busy and you haven't done anything to prepare for that and you won't go. Same thing with your launch. If you look at your calendar and you're going to have a launch in 3 months and you get there and you haven't planned anything for that launch, you won't launch. Plan your days, plan your months, plan your, your quarters, and plan your year and stop letting the day-to-day dictate your calendar. You have the power to dictate your calendar. Stop letting your day-to-day activities take over your business and your personal life. All right, I want you to get planned out. When you think about where you want to be in 6 months, you have to plan that. It's not just going to magically happen. You need to have goals, you need to have a plan so that right now, today, you can start implementing that plan so that you'll be where you want to be in 6 months. And we can have a great plan. And sometimes we are not where we want to be in 6 months, but we have made progress. We are not sitting here 6 months from now having this conversation that you have not made any progress in 6 months, that things don't look differently for you in 6 months. That is what I am talking about. And it starts right now. You can't wait 5 months. To put your plan together for your 6 months. It starts right now. What you do today, the things that you implement today are going to put you on a path to where you want to be in 6 months. It is all compounding. It is all the momentum you are building. It is all the progression that you create, but you have to start now. We should have started yesterday. But we're not going to worry about the past. We're going to start right now, but we got to know where we're going. We can't get in a car and just drive aimlessly, or we're going to end up right back at home because we didn't have a plan on where we were going to go. Don't end up right here in 6 months. I want you to progress, but you've got to know what that roadmap looks like so that you can progress. Plan your year, plan your 6 months, plan out the tasks that are involved over the next 90 days, and let's start implementing. We've got to make progress. 2024 is going to look a whole lot different than 2023 if you start right now. All right, let's work it. Let's work the— plan your day. Don't let your day plan for you. All right, okay. I want you to get planned. Let's go. I'll be back, um, I'll be back at the warehouse later this week. I'll see you soon.
