You're Not Failing - You're Just Not Being Seen

In this solo coaching episode of the Launch Your Box podcast, host Sarah Williams tells subscription‑box entrepreneurs that low growth isn’t a sign of failure but a symptom of insufficient visibility. She explains the typical 1‑3% conversion rate for product‑based businesses and shows how, to acquire 50 subscribers, a creator needs a pool of 1,500‑5,000 potential customers (email list, social followers, website visitors). Using a member case study (Amanda), she illustrates how consistent posting and event attendance can still result in flat growth when the audience size is too small. Sarah urges listeners to shift from a self‑critical mindset to a visibility‑focused one, recommending that any launch be postponed until a sizable audience exists. She outlines a 30‑day "visibility sprint" consisting of five concrete tactics: (1) pick one social platform and post daily in multiple formats; (2) run a low‑budget page‑like ad (≈$5/day); (3) email the list weekly, even if it’s tiny; (4) run a giveaway to boost social reach and list growth; (5) create video content (short, live, or story) to leverage the highest‑performing media. Sarah notes that Launch Your Box offers detailed training for each tactic and a full launch plan for those who need a roadmap. The episode ends with a motivational call to stop hiding, get louder, stay consistent, and become visible, positioning visibility as the catalyst for momentum and scale.

So here's the truth that I need you to hear today. You're not failing, you're just not being seen. If you feel like you are doing everything right, you post on social media, you show up in stories, you go live once in a while, maybe you're emailing your list, but you still aren't growing, it's probably not what you're posting. It's probably not your offer or your box. It's just that not enough people are seeing what you're doing. And what happens is I see this over and over and over again and people internalize this and it makes them feel like they are a failure. But you're not failing. You are just not visible. So let me break it down for you. The conversion math, okay, your conversion rates for subscription boxes and really any product-based business typically sit between 1% and 3%. That means if 100 people visit your website, maybe 1 to 3 of them will actually subscribe. So if you want 50 subscribers, you need at least 1,500 to 5,000 people in your world. That could be email subscribers, that could be social media followers, that could be website visitors. And if you're sitting there stuck with 600 email subscribers, 700 Facebook followers, wondering why you're stuck at 6 subscribers, you're not broken. You're not failing. The math just isn't mathing. And that is a normal conversion. The problem is we don't see that as a normal conversion. So we think we're failing. We think we're not doing well enough. We think we have this problem. Nobody wants to buy from us. No, nobody likes our subscription box. Nobody's engaging in my post. Nobody is seeing it. That's the problem. This came up recently in one of our Launch Your Box Q&As, and I want to share what I told Amanda. Amanda is a member who's been at it for a while, and she's been consistent. She's posting daily. She's showing up at vendor events. She's building a list. But her growth has flatlined. And I told her what I'm telling you. You don't need to work harder. You just need more people, more people in your audience, more people on your list, more people seeing your box. And so it took a mindset shift for her to understand this. And I want you to shift your mind with this. If you're not growing, don't automatically jump to, well, I must be terrible at this. People must not like my box. I should just quit right now. I'm never going to make it. That mindset will spiral you. It will spiral you down where you'll quit, you'll give up, and we will no longer be doing this. Instead, I want you to ask yourself, am I actually reaching enough people? What am I doing right, right now to grow my following, my list, to get visible? Am I actually reaching enough people and am I getting visible? And that right there is your shift. What can you do to reach more people and what can you do to get more visible? That's what we need to shift. It's not about the sales sometimes. Sometimes it's just being seen. And here's what I'll say that might surprise you. If you've picked a launch date, but you haven't built an audience, You don't need a launch. You don't need a launch. Yeah, I would put that launch on the table. I would not even mess with it because what you need is a visibility sprint. You can reschedule a launch. You should reschedule a launch if nobody knows you're launching. So instead of launching to crickets, give yourself 30 days. And here's exactly what I want you to do for 30 days. If you're a note taker, take down these notes. You can come back and check the show notes for reference on them. So number 1, I want you to pick one social media platform. Typically, that's going to be Facebook or Instagram. That could be TikTok, YouTube, whatever it is. I want you to show up daily. I want you to show up in posts. I want you to show up in stories. I want you to show up in reels. I want you to mix it up. You have lots of different content in different styles, one platform, go all in every single day. You need to show up. Number 2, I want you to run a simple page like ad. Okay, you can do this on Facebook. So if your platform you're picking is Facebook, I want you to run a simple page like ad. You can do this for $5 a day and it can grow your audience faster than you think. Number 3, I want you to email your list weekly. Even if you've only got 50 people over there, I want you to start warming them up for a potential launch. Okay, you have to start emailing them weekly. Number 4, I want you to run a giveaway. That little visibility boost from a giveaway is going to help you so much. It's going to give you a boost on socials. It's going to grow your email list. It's going to help you jumpstart this before a launch. And then number 5, get on video. You've heard me say this over and over and over again, and there is a reason why I keep saying it. And there's a reason why you don't do it. Why you, you hear me say it and you're saying, nah, no. Yeah, no, Sarah, I'm not doing that. Get on video. Talk about your story. Talk about your box. Talk about who it's for. Talk about why it matters. Get on video. It is the highest performing type of media right now, whether that's short video, whether that's live video, whether that's video in your stories. And yet is everything because visibility is the beginning of momentum and momentum is the beginning of scale. This is your reminder to get visible. Visibility takes effort, daily effort, but it's worth it and it's the key to everything you're trying to build. So no more hiding. Get louder, get consistent. And get visible. Because once people see you, that's when everything changes. So go get visible now.
