How do you get people nodding their heads? I give the example of, I'm a visiting distinguished professor at the American University in Cairo. Say that five times fast. And whenever I go to Cairo, I go to schools in the area. And so I was doing a parent talk for an Islamic school, and I was very nervous. It's two in the afternoon. 400 parents showed up for this parent talk. And all the guys had the long beards and all the women were wearing burqas. And we were talking like you and I are talking right now. And I'm like, oh, shame on me. And I started off my talk on reading. I said, you know, I was reading this book the other day. It was the Quran. Have any of you ever read that? And they all start laughing like, oh, well, then you know the story when Muhammad's in the cave and the angel Gabriel appears. What's the first instruction Gabriel gives to Muhammad? Because the first pillar of Islam is to read. And so I looked at the parents, I said, so what it's saying is, not only should you get your kids reading, it's actually written in your most sacred text. It's your duty to get kids reading. And all of a sudden, I saw 400 heads nodding in agreement.
