A short first-person reflection (YouTube video) on resilience where the speaker argues that resilience stems from flexibility rather than toughness. The speaker cites a family background that included alcoholism, describes having to adapt during formative years, and explains how flexibility allowed personal growth and the re-creation of a relationship rather than returning to a previous situation.

For me, the secret of resilience isn't toughness, it's flexibility. Certainly not the strongest, toughest guy. There's a lot people tougher than me, but I'm pretty flexible. I grew up in an environment that demanded flexibility. I had an amazing family but there was alcoholism as part of part of my background and I had limitless opportunities during a certain period of age to be that. I had to be enormously flexible. I believe there's always a way to use something to become better, stronger, fitter or use it to your advantage and not in a manipulative way but in a way that says I'm leverage, I can be smarter because of that. And that flexibility created new answers. And by being flexible even in in relationship, how we view our relationship now, getting back together wasn't, you know, going back to a situation. It was adapting to a whole new situation. It was creating a brand new relationship. And flexibility has been everything for me.
