Next time you pitch an idea, try this. Instead of just walking into the room and pitching to 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 people an idea and not knowing how it's going to go pre sell the idea with one, two or three key people in the room. It's a simple idea but I see it happening all the time. People go into a pitch absolutely cold. Well what if instead of pitching to the room when they're entirely cold, you found one, two or three people that are most likely to have problems with it? Most likely they have questions with it. Most vocal people in the room. What if you could persuade them before the meeting even happens? Gather their feedback, gather their input and adjust the idea to make sure you're addressing their needs. Then when you walk in now you walk in knowing that three of the toughest people in the room have already bought. That's the idea of pre selling. Try that at your next meeting.
