A short excerpt from a YouTube video by Scott Empringham explaining a business management system called "traction," using Stephen Covey's "big rocks" jar analogy to illustrate prioritizing major life areas (e.g., faith, family, fitness) before attending to smaller tasks.

Are you familiar with traction? No. So we embedded a traction command. Traction is like a business management system that includes rocks. Like, think of it as, like, Stephen Covey had these rocks. Do you remember the Stephen Covey thing? The rocks, big rocks. So he's got this jar and he has. And he has these rocks and some sand and some water. And he says, okay, first fill up the sand. The little things that you get distracted with all day long, like, you know, so you fill up with sand. And then he says, now put some water in there. Now can you fit these rocks? And each one of these rocks has a name on, like, fitness, family, faith. And by the end, you can only get about three rocks in, and the other rocks are out. You can't fit them in. So the point is, when you get rid of it all again and you start with your rocks, faith, family, fitness, whatever it is, you can get all the rocks. And then you pour the sand in, and then you pour the water, and it's still at all time. It all fits. It's really kind of interesting visual.
