Short YouTube monologue (by Scott Empringham) introducing the psychological technique paradoxical intent as a way to overcome procrastination. The speaker defines paradoxical intent, gives examples (insomniacs told to stay awake; deliberately exaggerating sweating), and applies it to content-creation fear: deliberately record a terrible video ("writing for the trash") to break procrastination.

Here's a weird way to stop procrastinating. It's a little known psychology hack called paradoxical intent. It's a deliberate practice of a neurotic habit or thought undertaken in order to remove it. So for example, insomniacs can't sleep at night, are instructed to lay in bed and try to stay awake for as long as they possibly can. They drift right off. A person who has a fear of sweating is asked to deliberately show everybody how much you can sweat and suddenly the guy can't. Let's talk about something that may be impacting you. Let's say you need to make content for TikTok a video, but you're petrified of looking like an idiot. You're neurot about it. You can't get yourself to shoot one video. Shoot a video right now knowing it's going to be horrible. No one will ever see it. You'll absolutely 100% believe it when you're done. Writers call that writing for the trash. And it works. Do that one thing and you just broke the back of procrastination.
