A short YouTube #shorts (Scott Empringham) giving three quick, actionable ways to make people like you: (1) be genuinely interested in others (ask about their lives, show enthusiasm), (2) smile more (use habitual smiling to elicit positive responses), and (3) be a good listener (encourage people to talk about themselves; anecdote: a dinner party conversation with guests from China). The video urges practicing these behaviors in everyday interactions to improve social rapport.

Here's three guaranteed ways to make people like you instantly. 1. Be genuinely interested in other people. Do you have a dog or know somebody who does? If you go to your mailbox for like 30 seconds and come back, what does your dog do? He goes nuts. He goes, oh my God, it's so good to see you. Where have you been? When you meet people for the first time, how do you respond? With enthusiasm or apathy? Try a little enthusiasm and be genuinely interested in their day and what they've been up to, and watch what happens. Second, smile. Do you have habitual facial expressions that you're totally unaware of? Most of us do, and most of the time it's not a smile. Today. Experiment by smiling more smile at the grocery store clerk for no apparent reason to watch a response 99.9% of the time, they'll smile back. Third, be a good listener. Encourage people to talk about themselves. At a recent dinner party, I had the unique good fortune to sit next to a businessman and his wife from China, and I quizzed each of them on their lives, their cultures, and how they grew up. And afterwards, they gushed at what a wonderful conversation it was because I encouraged them to talk about themselves. Try those things. Be genuinely interested in other people. Be a good listener and smile.
