Afraid to Speak Up at Work? Use This 30-Second Rule

Mitchell Palmer's 30-Second Rule for speaking up in meetings: reset your body, watch the person who owns the issue, then land one decisive sentence. Silence forces the real problem out. Track interruptions and decision speed to measure if it works.

Look at me. You talk first because you're nervous. You think jumping in proves you're in charge. Man, it doesn't. We're killing that today. This is the rule: walk in, say nothing for 30 seconds, then one sentence that ends confusion. That's it. 30 seconds, one sentence. Why does this work? Because when you stop performing, the real problem shows up and the nonsense Shuts up. People reveal what's stuck, who owns it, and what decision is missing. You can finally fix something. Here's exactly how you run it so there's no wiggle. Step 1: Reset. One quiet exhale like you're fogging a mirror. Drop your shoulders a notch, your jaw unlocks, and you tell your system, "We're not in a knife fight." Step 2: Watch. Eyes on the owner, the person responsible. Don't scan for approval like a weather vane. Let the room dump all that noise. Step 3, land the sentence. Not a paragraph, not a TED Talk. One sentence that moves it forward. Ship Friday, or A or B, pick one. Block 2 hours, fix it, report at 3 o'clock. If there's a second sentence, it should always be a question. One that forces a binary answer. Are you committing by end of day? Yes or no? What will try and sabotage you? Explaining first. Context is where cowards hide. Next is volume spikes. Feeling small? Well, your voice gets loud. Drop it. Face checking is the final one. Say the sentence, then shut up. Need less, lead more. Here's a field drill. You're doing this today. Walk into one meeting, count 1 to 30 in your head, and then fire one clean sentence. Track two receipts. Are the interruptions down? Is the decision speed up? If they move, you earned respect without any theater. Finally, your execution order. Run the rule in the next 24 hours and post your receipt in the comments. Silence plus one sentence, and the decision came in X number of minutes. Apply for Identity Reboot coaching when you want the full system and not just the tips. I'm Mitchell Palmer. You know my name, damn it.
