The Power of Diet and the Endocannabinoid System

A short educational video (YouTube) by Sheri Caplan Stelino explaining how diet and nutrition can support the endocannabinoid system and enhance cannabis treatment effectiveness. It cites Dr. Ethan Russo’s research linking nutrition, the microbiome, and endocannabinoid function, and recommends whole foods, healthy fats, and pre/probiotics to support brain and ECS health.
Can diet help support your endocannabinoid system and working more efficiently and effectively? I'm Sheri Caplan Stelino, founder of Connected Wellness. In our last video, I discussed how exercise can actually increase the levels of thc, your natural thc, in your blood plasma. And today I'm going to share with you the latest research that has come out on nutrition and how that can help to support your endocannabinoid system in working more effectively. Dr. Ethan Russo is one of the pioneers and leaders in the area of cannabis research. He recently published a paper called the Grand Unified Theory, the Endocannabinoid System, Cannabis and the Microbiome. In this paper, Ethan Russo discusses how clinical neurology or conventional medicine in the area of treatment Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's, various types of traumatic brain injury, and how cannabis treatments, along with nutritional interventions, can provide effective treatment where other neurological interventions have fallen short. So what does this mean for you? It means that a healthy diet, including unprocessed foods, fresh fruits and vegetables that are organically or responsibly grown locally in your area, along with foods that are nutrient dense, supplements that are rich in prebiotics, probiotics, digestive enzymes, can all be helpful to supporting your endocannabinoid system. And using your cannabis treatment along with that is a great way to make your medicine work more efficiently and effectively. Now, I am not a nutrition guru, but for the last 25 years I have counseled my patients in integrative mental health practices on how to eat for optimal brain health. So I know that you can go online to social media and find tons of information on how to eat healthy for your brain. And eating healthy for your brain and your body includes lots of good healthy fats like avocado, olive oil, safflower oil, grapeseed oil and fish oils. And not only are these healthy fats good for your brain, your body, your central nervous system, but cannabis and your natural endocannabinoids travel through the body through fatty proteins. So when you add healthy fats into your diet, you can actually help your medicine work more efficiently and effectively, along with taking prebiotics and probiotics that support your gut microbiome, which, according to Dr. Ethan Russo's paper, will actually help to support your endocannabinoid system in functioning more effectively. So I hope this information has been helpful to you.
